Crystal Palace, Fulham, West Ham United vying for Granit Xhaka

Crystal Palace, Fulham, and West Ham United are reportedly interested in signing 32-year-old Swiss international Granit Xhaka from Bundesliga club Bayer Leverkusen this summer.

According to a report by Graeme Bailey on TBR Football, Crystal Palace, Fulham, and West Ham United are among the prospective suitors to sign Granit Xhaka in the summer transfer window. The 32-year-old former Arsenal midfielder is ready to leave Bayer Leverkusen after Xabi Alonso’s departure from BayArena.

Granit Xhaka and his excellent Bundesliga return

Granit Xhaka has established himself as one of the best players in the Bundesliga since joining Bayer Leverkusen from Arsenal in July 2023. The Basel-born midfielder hit the ground running at BayArena, and he was instrumental as Die Werkself won the 2023/24 Bundesliga title without losing a game.

While Bayer Leverkusen did not win a second successive title last season, Xhaka remained one of the best players in the German top flight. The 32-year-old has turned out nearly 100 times thus far for the German giants while chipping in with six goals and nine assists. However, a return to the Premier League may be on the cards, with Crystal Palace, Fulham, and West Ham United vying for his signature.

London return on the horizon?

Crystal Palace will dip into the market for a midfielder this summer amid emerging uncertainties surrounding Adam Wharton’s signature, with the young Englishman a target for Tottenham. So, Xhaka has emerged as a target for the South London club.

Meanwhile, Fulham’s interest in Granit Xhaka is understandable. Andreas Pereira faces an uncertain future at Craven Cottage amid his links with Brazilian clubs. So, several candidates, including Rocco Reitz, have emerged on Fulham’s radar, with the Swiss international also an option worth considering for the West London outfit.

As for West Ham United, Carlos Soler has returned to Paris Saint-Germain after a dreadful loan stint in the 2024/25 season. Meanwhile, Guido Rodriguez and Tomas Soucek face an uncertain future at the London Stadium, with the latter being a target for Everton. So, Xhaka is a viable target for West Ham.

However, Crystal Palace, Fulham, and West Ham face stiff competition from Sunderland for the former Arsenal captain’s signature. In addition, Fenerbahce and Saudi Pro League outfit Neom SC are keen on signing the 32-year-old Swiss international in the summer transfer window. So, it will be interesting to see what the future holds for Xhaka.
