Arsenal schedule Viktor Gyokeres medical for this weekend

Arsenal will reportedly hope to conduct the medical tests for 27-year-old Sporting CP striker Viktor Gyokeres this weekend as they aim to seal a deal worth €80 million.

According to a report by Football Transfers, Viktor Gyokeres is the subject of interest from Arsenal. The Gunners are keen on reinforcing their offensive unit by signing a striker in the summer transfer window. So, the 27-year-old Sporting CP centre-forward has been a target for the North London outfit for several weeks.

The Premier League heavyweights have an agreement in principle over a package worth €80 million, including €10 million as add-ons. However, while a few details are keeping the deal from completion, Arsenal will hope to conduct the Swede’s medical tests soon, thus scheduling the checks for this weekend.

Viktor Gyokeres and his transformation

Viktor Gyokeres has blossomed into a goal machine since joining Sporting CP from Coventry City in July 2023. The 27-year-old was already prolific during his spell with Coventry City, but he has unlocked a new level of productivity after moving to Portugal. The player has amassed 97 goals and 28 assists in 102 appearances across all competitions thus far for the Portuguese giants.

So, it is hardly surprising that the Swedish international has piqued the attention of several high-profile clubs across Europe. A return to England is on the cards, with Arsenal closing in on securing his signature in the summer transfer window.

London calling?

Arsenal’s interest in Viktor Gyokeres is understandable. The Gunners have been eager to sign a prolific striker this summer after Gabriel Jesus and Kai Havertz were not productive enough in the final third last season. In addition, Arsenal’s overdependence on Bukayo Saka in the offensive areas has grown.

So, Gyokeres has emerged as a viable target, with Arsenal securing an agreement in principle with Sporting CP over a package worth €80 million. However, recent reports have claimed that talks between the two clubs may collapse over the details of the add-ons. Nevertheless, the Premier League giants have pencilled in a medical for the Swede for this weekend.

Arsenal will hope to take Gyokeres to the pre-season tour to Asia, and that may happen if Gyokeres undergoes his medical tests this weekend. So, it will be interesting to see if the 27-year-old Swedish international completes the move to the Emirates in the coming days.
