West Ham United submit loan offer to sign Douglas Luiz

West Ham United will reportedly look to sign 27-year-old Brazilian midfielder Douglas Luiz from Serie A club Juventus in the summer transfer window.

According to a report by Tuttosport, as relayed by Sport Witness, Douglas Luiz is the subject of interest from West Ham United. The Hammers are keen on reinforcing their first-team squad by signing a midfielder in the summer transfer window. So, the 27-year-old Juventus flop has emerged as a target for the East London club.

The Hammers have already submitted a bid to sign the former Aston Villa midfielder, offering a loan fee of €10 million with a €30 million option to seal a permanent deal next summer. It can convert into a purchase obligation “under certain conditions”. Meanwhile, a report by Corriere dello Sport via Sport Witness has revealed that “several intermediaries” are working on taking him back to the Premier League.

Douglas Luiz and his situation

Douglas Luiz has seen his stock plummet since joining Juventus from Aston Villa in a deal worth €50 million last summer. The 27-year-old arrived at the Allianz Stadium amid hype and fanfare surrounding him after an excellent spell in the Premier League with the Villans. However, poor form and fitness issues have blighted him during his spell with the Bianconeri.

The Brazilian international has not even managed 1,000 minutes of game time across 27 outings thus far for Juventus. However, Luiz’s stock in the market remains high, and a return to the Premier League may be on the cards. West Ham United will be among the prospective suitors vying for his signature in the summer transfer window.

Premier League return on the horizon?

West Ham United’s interest in Douglas Luiz makes sense. The Hammers are scouring the market for a dynamic midfielder this summer after Carlos Soler returned to Paris Saint-Germain after an underwhelming loan spell in the 2024/25 season. In addition, Guido Rodriguez and James Ward-Prowse face an uncertain future at the London Stadium.

Several candidates, including Richard Rios, have emerged on West Ham’s radar, with Luiz also a viable target. The Hammers have made their move to sign the former Aston Villa midfielder, submitting an initial loan fee worth €10 million with the option to seal a permanent deal worth €30 million. It can turn into a purchase obligation under “certain conditions”.

While the report has not suggested whether Juventus will be ready to sanction a loan exit for Luiz, it claims that a purchase obligation clause can seal the deal. With “several intermediaries” working on taking the the 27-year-old Brazilian international back to the Premier League, West Ham will hope to secure his services after submitting a loan bid to the Serie A giants.
