West Ham United step up interest in Arnau Martinez, offer £12 million

Graham Potter’s West Ham United have stepped up their pursuit of Girona full-back Arnau Martinez by tabling a £12 million offer.

According to a report from TEAMtalk, West Ham United are looking to add more quality to their backline, and they are interested in the services of Arnau Martinez. The Hammers have decided to intensify their efforts to sign the Girona mainstay this summer. They have put forward a £12 million bid to sign the 23-year-old thanks to the bargain release clause in his contract.

The former La Masia youth product joined Girona’s academy back in 2018. He went up the ranks at some pace and got promoted to the first team in 2021. Martinez has only gone from strength to strength over the last few seasons.

Not only has the Spaniard established himself as one of their mainstays, but he is also widely regarded as one of the best young full-backs in Spain. While he prefers playing as a right-back, the 22-year-old is capable enough to feature anywhere at the back. He can even play in the midfield if needed.

Over the years, Arnau Martinez has featured in a total of 162 matches for the Catalan outfit, and he has contributed towards 27 goals (9 goals, 18 assists). While he still has two years left on his deal with Girona, the Spanish full-back looks set for a move away from the club.

West Ham close in on Martinez’s signature

West Ham United have emerged as a potential destination for Arnau Martinez. Graham Potter is looking to revamp his squad ahead of next season. He wants more quality and depth at right-back as Aaron Wan-Bissaka is the only out-and-out right-back option in his squad.

Martinez is considered an ideal fit for Potter’s system and his style of play, thanks to his composure on the ball and attacking flair. Meanwhile, his versatility could prove to be an added advantage for them. With the Spaniard available for a cut-price fee thanks to his release clause, the Hammers do not want to miss out on him.

The Hammers are moving quickly as they want to avoid getting into a tussle with another top club. West Ham have stepped up their efforts and have put forward the £12 million to get the green light from the Spanish club. If everything goes as planned, Arnau Martinez could be playing for the East London club in the new season.
