Newcastle United in talks to sign Yoane Wissa
Newcastle United are reportedly in talks for Yoane Wissa as they continue their quest to sign a new striker, with Tottenham also chasing the Brentford star.
According to TBR, Yoane Wissa appears to be a concrete target for Newcastle United, with the club already in talks for the striker. The Magpies are intent on bringing in a new striker to play alongside Alexander Isak, with the Brentford star the latest on their list, who is also chased by Tottenham, among others.
Newcastle United have dominated the headlines in the past 48 hours over their chase of Hugo Ekitike. The Magpies went in for the Eintracht Frankfurt star with an offer, only for Liverpool to enquire about Alexander Isak. The early indication from Eddie Howe’s side is to bring in the Frenchman to play alongside the Swede, and their stance has not changed since.
While they face concerns over the Ekitike pursuit, Liverpool made an approach on Tuesday for the French striker. There’s a real fear that Newcastle United could miss out on the Eintracht Frankfurt star, although they might end up keeping Isak in the process.
Either way, the Magpies are eager to find a new striker in the market to replace the departed Callum Wilson. The primary agenda is to bring in someone who can contribute more than the former striker, who was riddled with injury issues last season, which did place a lot of pressure on Isak to lead the line.
Yoane Wissa is the latest name on their list, with the striker being chased by a host of clubs, including Tottenham. Spurs are eager to bring in another striker, and their interest in Wissa, who had a tremendous season with 20 goals, has been on their list for a long time. Spurs are already frustrated with Brentford’s asking price, as Nottingham Forest have already seen a bid rejected for the forward.
Newcastle United in Yoane Wissa talks
Brentford want £50 million for Wissa, although the report firmly states the 28-year-old could leave for less than £40 million. That may prove enticing for Newcastle United, with some other reports stating that Wissa could be open to joining the Magpies.
Newcastle United are in talks over the pursuit of Wissa, with the idea of coming to St James Park will prove to be an interesting prospect for the 20-goal striker target. The lure of Champions League football and, more importantly, playing at the highest level possible would seem appealing for the 28-year-old. From Newcastle United’s perspective, they will still hope to lure Ekitike as a priority, but Wissa is a secondary option.
