Hugo Ekitike yet to approve Newcastle United move
Chelsea, Liverpool, and Newcastle United are reportedly interested in signing 23-year-old French striker Hugo Ekitike from Eintracht Frankfurt in the summer transfer window.
According to a report by French outlet Le Parisien, Chelsea, Liverpool, and Newcastle United are keen on signing Hugo Ekitike in the summer transfer window. The Magpies have already made an offer to sign the Eintracht Frankfurt striker. However, the Frenchman has yet to give the green light to join the Tyneside outfit.
Hugo Ekitike and his career-changing move
Hugo Ekitike has resurrected his stuttering career since joining Eintracht Frankfurt from Paris Saint-Germain last year. The Bundesliga club initially signed the French striker on loan in February 2024 before completing a permanent move in the subsequent summer transfer window.
The 23-year-old was exceptional in the 2024/25 season, contributing to 34 goals in 48 outings across all competitions by finding the back of the net 22 times and providing 12 assists. Meanwhile, Ekitike’s exploits have not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several high-profile Premier League clubs, including Chelsea, Liverpool, and Newcastle United.
A man in demand
Chelsea may dip into the market for another striker this summer despite signing Liam Delap and Joao Pedro from Ipswich Town and Brighton & Hove Albion. Nicolas Jackson faces an uncertain future at Stamford Bridge, while Marc Guiu is not ready for regular game time. So, Ekitike has emerged as a viable target for Chelsea.
Meanwhile, Liverpool’s interest in Hugo Ekitike makes sense. The Reds are keen on reinforcing their offensive unit by signing a striker in the summer transfer window after Darwin Nunez fell in the pecking order in the 2024/25 campaign. So, the Frenchman is a viable target for Liverpool.
As for Newcastle United, Callum Wilson has departed from St. James’ Park as a free agent this summer. In addition, Alexander Isak’s long-term future is uncertain amid his constant links with several European bigwigs. So, Ekitike is a viable target for Newcastle United as they aim to remain one of the top teams in the Premier League.
The Magpies have submitted a bid worth €70 million to sign Ekitike in the summer transfer window. However, the 23-year-old French striker has yet to approve the move to Newcastle United, handing a window of opportunity to Chelsea and Liverpool.
