Leeds United considering Yahia Fofana move
Leeds United may look to sign 24-year-old Ivory Coast international Yahia Fofana from Ligue 1 club Angers SCO in the summer transfer window.
According to a report by TEAMtalk, Yahia Fofana is the subject of interest from Leeds United. The Whites are keen on reinforcing their first-team squad by signing a goalkeeper in the summer transfer window after Illan Meslier’s struggles in the 2024/25 campaign. So, the 24-year-old Angers SCO shot-stopper has emerged as a target for the newly promoted Premier League club.
Yahia Fofana and his time in Ligue 1
Yahia Fofana has established himself as one of the most underrated goalkeepers in Ligue 1 since joining Angers SCO from Le Havre AC in July 2022. A native of Paris, he spent his formative years in France but has picked the Ivory Coast as his national side.
The 24-year-old passed through the academies at Espérance Paris 19ème and Red Star Football Club before graduating from the youth division at Le Havre AC. Fofana has turned out 77 times thus far for Angers SCO while keeping 22 clean sheets and conceding 105 goals.
Meanwhile, Fofana’s progress has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several well-known clubs across Europe. Premier League outfits, in particular, are keen on signing the 18-cap Ivory Coast international, with Leeds United among the prospective suitors vying for his signature in the summer transfer window.
Premier League adventure beckons?
Leeds United’s interest in Yahia Fofana is understandable. The Whites are scouring the market for a goalkeeper this summer after Illan Meslier blew hot and cold in the 2024/25 season. The French shot-stopper has been an error-prone keeper for Leeds United, and his inconsistencies have compelled Daniel Farke to ask for a new star to feature between the sticks.
So, several candidates, including Nick Pope, have emerged on Leeds United’s radar, with Fofana also a viable target. However, the 24-year-old Angers SCO shot-stopper is not a top goalkeeping option on the West Yorkshire club’s wishlist, with Pope and Lucas Perri ahead of the Paris-born keeper.
In addition, the newly promoted Premier League club will likely face stiff competition from other Premier League clubs for Fofana’s signature in the summer transfer window. So, it will be interesting to see what the future holds for the 18-cap Ivory Coast international.
