Manchester United stepping up interest in Joao Palhinha
Manchester United, Tottenham Hotspur, and West Ham United are reportedly interested in signing Joao Palhinha from Bayern Munich in the summer transfer window.
According to a report by Caught Offside, Manchester United, Tottenham Hotspur, and West Ham United are keen on signing Joao Palhinha in the summer transfer window. While the Red Devils are ready to ramp up their efforts to land the Bayern Munich misfit, the Hammers want to begin negotiations to secure his services in the summer transfer window, with Die Roten valuing the 30-year-old at €51 million.
Joao Palhinha and his woes
Joao Palhinha would have hoped to embark on a career-changing spell when he joined Bayern Munich from Fulham in a deal worth €51 million last summer, nearly a year after Die Roten failed to secure his services. While the Lisbon native’s life has changed, it has not been in the way he would have envisioned after being in and out of the starting lineup throughout the 2024/25 season.
The 30-year-old has not even managed 1,000 minutes of game time across 25 appearances in all competitions thus far for Bayern Munich. However, Palhinha’s stock in the market remains high, with several Premier League clubs, including Manchester United, Tottenham Hotspur, and West Ham United, vying for his signature in the summer transfer window.
A man in demand
Manchester United offered a loan deal to sign the Portuguese midfielder in the summer transfer window. The Red Devils are scouring the market for a new holding midfielder amid uncertainties surrounding Casemiro’s long-term future. So, Palhinha is a viable target for Manchester United, although Bayern Munich would prefer to sell him for €30-35 million.
Meanwhile, Tottenham Hotspur’s interest in Joao Palhinha is understandable. The Lilywhites are keen on reinforcing their first-team squad by signing a dynamic midfielder in the summer transfer window. Yves Bissouma faces an uncertain future at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, and the Bayern Munich misfit can be his replacement at the North London club.
As for West Ham United, Carlos Soler has returned to Paris Saint-Germain after a dreadful loan spell in the 2024/25 season. In addition, Guido Rodriguez faces an uncertain future at the London Stadium. So, Palhinha is an option worth considering for West Ham.
As iterated, while Bayern Munich will bear a loss on the €51 million they paid to sign him, they want a permanent sale worth €30-35 million. With West Ham United seeking negotiations and Manchester United stepping up interest, a summer deal may be on the cards.
