Liverpool are reportedly interested in signing Crystal Palace striker Jean-Philippe Mateta during the summer transfer window.

According to Foot Mercato, the club is in talks to sign the French attacker, who scored 17 goals last season for the Premier League side. It remains to be seen if Liverpool can convince Crystal Palace to sell the player.

Mateta has been linked with a move away from Selhurst Park in recent weeks, and the opportunity to join Liverpool could be quite attractive for him. He would be able to compete for major trophies with the Premier League champions and showcase his qualities in the UEFA Champions League next season. Having proven his worth with Crystal Palace, this could be the right time for him to take on a new challenge.

Crystal Palace could lose multiple key players this summer. Besides Mateta, Eberechi Eze and Marc Guéhi have also been linked with moves away from the club.

Meanwhile, it is no secret that Liverpool need a quality striker. Darwin Núñez managed to score just seven goals last season, and Liverpool cannot hope to win league titles or the Champions League with him leading the line. They will need to bring in an upgrade, and signing the French attacker could prove to be a wise decision.
