Celtic eyeing Tyrell Malacia move, set condition to seal deal

Celtic’s prospects of signing wantaway defender Tyrell Malacia will depend on Manchester United and their capacity to subsidise his wages.

According to Football Insider, Celtic are interested in signing Tyrell Malacia, but any deal will depend on whether Manchester United can subsidise his wages. The Bhoys are looking for a new left-back on their side, but they may even find it difficult to convince the 25-year-old wide man to join them.

Tyrell Malacia is among the five high-profile players that Manchester United wants to get rid of this summer. Ruben Amorim does not count the 25-year-old wide man in his plans, as the arrival of Patrick Dorgu in January may have allowed the Portuguese manager to move on from the Dutchman.

Manchester United are already struggling to sell some of their players, with the likes of Marcus Rashford, Jadon Sancho, Antony, Alejandro Garnacho and now Malacia are all up for sale. However, the list of buyers for the Dutchman, who did join PSV Eindhoven on loan in January.

One of the clearest suitors for Tyrell Malacia are Celtic, with Brendan Rodgers keen on a new left-back following the departure of Greg Taylor on a free transfer to POAK. However, the Scottish giants have already signed Kieran Tierney on a free transfer, which they wanted back in January, but Arsenal were clear to block it then.

Tierney is likely to play as the first-choice left-back under Rodgers, and that may cast doubts on whether they need Malacia at all. Having the 25-year-old wide man may improve the position on paper, but the Dutchman will not get guarantees of regular minutes, which could see him choose another option.

Celtic cannot afford Tyrell Malacia

Celtic may still try to sign the 25-year-old winger this summer, but they may need Manchester United to subsidise his wages. Quite how they expect the Red Devils to do that remains to be seen, but given his current salary, the idea may not resonate well with the Scottish champions.

Hence, there are many doubts whether Malacia will make the move to Celtic, as the idea of subsidising the player’s wages may not sit well with Manchester United. Moreover, the player has had injury issues and missed a major chunk of his career since joining the Red Devils, meaning he would want to join a team where he plays regularly.
