Aston Villa eyeing Samu Aghehowa as Ollie Watkins replacement

Aston Villa will reportedly launch an offensive to sign 21-year-old FC Porto striker Samu Aghehowa if Ollie Watkins departs from Villa Park in the summer transfer window.

According to a report by A Bola, as relayed by Sport Witness, Samu Aghehowa is the subject of interest from Aston Villa. The Villans are keen on reinforcing their offensive unit by signing a striker in the summer transfer window. So, the 21-year-old FC Porto centre-forward has emerged as a target for the West Midlands outfit.

The Premier League outfit will launch the offensive to secure the Spaniard’s services if Ollie Watkins departs from Villa Park in the summer transfer window. Meanwhile, FC Porto will demand €70-80 million to part ways with Samu, with the Portuguese club’s preferred transfer fee being €80 million.

The recent rise of Samu Aghehowa

Samu Aghehowa has made considerable progress in the last two seasons. While the 21-year-old could not establish a foothold in the first-team squad at Atletico Madrid, he made his mark during a loan spell with Deportivo Alaves in the 2023/24 campaign before completing a permanent move to FC Porto in August 2024. He also won the gold medal with Spain at the 2024 Paris Olympics.

The Spanish striker has enjoyed a solid debut campaign with FC Porto, contributing to 30 goals in 45 appearances across all competitions by finding the back of the net 27 times and providing three assists. Meanwhile, Samu’s progress has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several well-known clubs, including Aston Villa.

Premier League move on the horizon?

Aston Villa’s interest in Samu Aghehowa is understandable. The Villans are scouring the market for a striker this summer after Marcus Rashford returned to Manchester United. In addition, Ollie Watkins faces an uncertain future at Villa Park, compelling Aston Villa to turn to the market for a centre-forward.

So, Samu has emerged as a viable target, with the West Midlands outfit ready to launch the offensive to secure the Spaniard’s services if Watkins departs from Villa Park in the summer transfer window. However, the youngster will not come cheap, with FC Porto demanding around €70-80 million to part ways with him.

The Portuguese outfit would prefer to sell the 21-year-old Spanish striker for €80 million, but the starting price will be €70 million. So, it will be interesting to see how the situation unfolds, with the move depending on Watkins and his future.
