West Ham United in talks to seal loan-to-buy deal for Douglas Luiz

West Ham United will reportedly look to sign 27-year-old Brazilian international Douglas Luiz from Juventus in the summer transfer window.

According to a report by Gazzetta dello Sport, as relayed by Sport Witness, Douglas Luiz is the subject of interest from West Ham United. The Hammers are keen on reinforcing their first-team squad by signing a midfielder in the summer transfer window. So, the 27-year-old Juventus flop has emerged as a target for the East London club.

The Serie A giants want around €40 million to part ways with the former Aston Villa midfielder in the summer transfer window, although they are “open to creative formulas to sanction a move”. Meanwhile, talks between West Ham and Juventus have begun, with the Premier League club attempting to complete an “expensive” loan deal worth €10 million with a purchase obligation clause of around €25-30 million.

Douglas Luiz and his Juventus struggles

Douglas Luiz has hit a brick wall since joining Juventus from Aston Villa in a deal worth €50 million last summer. The 27-year-old was among the most dependable players in the Premier League when he arrived at the Allianz Stadium. However, poor form and fitness issues have hampered him in the last 12 months.

The Brazilian international has not even managed 1,000 minutes of game time across 27 outings thus far for Juventus. However, Luiz’s stock in the market remains reasonably high, and a return to the Premier League may be on the cards. West Ham United will be among the prospective suitors vying for his signature in the summer transfer window.

London calling?

West Ham United’s interest in Douglas Luiz is understandable. The Hammers are scouring the market for a dynamic midfielder this summer after Carlos Soler’s underwhelming loan spell ended. In addition, Guido Rodriguez and James Ward-Prowse face an uncertain future at the East London club.

So, several candidates, including Richard Rios, have emerged on West Ham’s radar, with Luiz also a viable target. The Hammers have opened talks with Juventus to sign the former Aston Villa midfielder on an “expensive” loan deal. The initial fee will be worth €10 million, and the agreement will contain a purchase obligation clause of around €25-30 million.

Meanwhile, the Serie A giants want around €40 million to part ways with the 27-year-old Brazilian international, a loss of €10 million on the €50 million they paid last summer. With Juventus “open to creative formulas to sanction a move”, West Ham will hope to seal the “expensive” loan deal in the coming weeks.
