Newcastle United revive move to sign Hugo Ekitike, in touch with entourage
Newcastle United are interested in signing Hugo Ekitike from Eintracht Frankfurt, and they have been in contact with his representatives regarding a potential summer move.
According to a report by the Daily Telegraph, Newcastle United have rekindled their interest in Hugo Ekitike, but they will face competition from Chelsea, Manchester United, and Liverpool for the Eintracht Frankfurt striker’s signature.
The 23-year-old forward enjoyed an outstanding 2024/25 campaign with the German club, scoring 22 goals and providing 12 assists. There is no doubt that he would be an exceptional acquisition for Newcastle United if they can get the deal done.
Alexander Isak has been linked with a move away from the club, and it will be interesting to see if Newcastle United decide to bring in Ekitike as his replacement. The young Frenchman has the ability to establish himself as a key player for the Magpies, and he could fill the void left by the Swedish international, should he depart.
Meanwhile, Chelsea have also been linked with the player. However, it is reasonable to assume the Blues are unlikely to move for him this summer, considering the potential high cost and the fact that they have already signed players like Liam Delap and Joao Pedro.
Manchester United and Liverpool could use someone like Ekitike
As for Manchester United, they are in desperate need of a clinical goal scorer. Ekitike would be a significant upgrade on their current options and could prove to be an excellent signing. However, United’s failure to qualify for the Champions League next season might hinder their ability to attract top-tier talents.
The young attacker may prefer to join a club with a stable project where he can compete for trophies immediately.
Finally, Liverpool are keeping tabs on him as well. They need an upgrade on Darwin Núñez, who was quite poor last season. The Reds may look to sell the South American this summer, and Ekitike could be the ideal replacement. He possesses the physicality and technical attributes to thrive at Liverpool and, with the right guidance, could develop into a key player for them.
Meanwhile, the player is likely to cost a premium this summer, and there have been rumours that the German outfit could demand around €100 million.
