Tottenham make contact for Joao Palhinha

Tottenham Hotspur have established contact as they look to bring Bayern Munich midfielder Joao Palhinha back to the Premier League.

According to a report from GiveMeSport, Tottenham are interested in acquiring the services of Joao Palhinha, and they have made contact to learn more about a potential transfer. The Portuguese international has struggled to get into Vincent Kompany’s plans, and Spurs see this as a great opportunity to bring him back to England.

Palhinha made quite a name for himself while playing for Fulham in the Premier League before joining Bayern Munich last summer. The German giants were very keen on having him in their squad, and they forked out £47 million to get a deal over the line.

While they expected him to have a massive impact, the 30-year-old failed to break into Kompany’s plans and struggled for minutes last season. He was involved in just 25 matches throughout and racked up less than 1,000 minutes of first-team action.

Injuries did trouble him, but even when he was fit, he often found himself on the bench. Frustrated by the lack of game time, the Portuguese international is all set to make a decision on his future in the coming days. He could look to push for a move away.

With him failing to settle at Bayern, Spurs are now looking to make the most out of this situation. After a slow start to the transfer window, the North London club have wrapped up the signing of Mohammed Kudus and Morgan Gibbs-White is also set to join them.

Frank now wants to sign Palhinha

Thomas Frank isn’t looking to stop there as he eyes a world-class midfielder to further strengthen his team in a season where they will be competing in the Champions League. The former Brentford manager is looking for a new defensive midfielder with a strong physical presence, and Palhinha certainly fits the bill.

As a result, Spurs have made informal contact to learn more about his situation and a potential transfer this summer. While Bayern could be open to his departure, they would certainly want to recoup a large part of what they had invested to sign him last summer.

Apart from the fee, Palhinha’s wages could also be a problem for Tottenham. However, they do seem quite determined to sign the 30-year-old. They have refused to rule out the possibility of making an offer if it becomes clear that he is on the market.
