Tottenham establish fresh contact to sign Marc Guehi
Tottenham Hotspur have made reportedly contact with Crystal Palace regarding a move for 24-year-old English international Marc Guehi.
According to a report by The Boy Hotspur, Tottenham Hotspur are hoping to win the race to sign Marc Guehi from Crystal Palace in the summer transfer window, though they face competition from Arsenal and Chelsea.
Guéhi is valued at £45 million, and he could be an excellent addition for any of the three clubs. With Cristian Romero potentially on his way out amid his La Liga links, Spurs need to bring in a quality replacement. Signing the England international would be a smart move. The Crystal Palace skipper is already well-settled in the Premier League, and he could make an immediate impact.
Arsenal, too, could benefit from more depth at the back. With ambitions to win both the Premier League and the UEFA Champions League, they need high-quality options across the board. Guehi’s ability on the ball and composure under pressure would suit Mikel Arteta’s style of play.
As for Chelsea, they were defensively inconsistent last season. The Blues may look to upgrade on players like Benoit Badiashile and Axel Disasi. Guehi, a former Chelsea academy graduate, could be the perfect fit. The Englishman may also feel he has unfinished business at Stamford Bridge, and he will be eager to prove himself at the highest level.
All three London clubs have the resources to afford him, and they can offer Champions League football, making them attractive options. It remains to be seen which club will secure his signature.
Can Tottenham get the deal done?
Tottenham have been active in the market so far, and they have already signed Mohammed Kudus for a substantial amount of money. They are hoping to sign Morgan Gibbs-White from Nottingham Forest as well, although the move has stalled. If the North London outfit can add a quality defender to that, they will have a real chance of fighting for trophies next season.
The move to Tottenham could be ideal for the player as well. The English centre-back will look to test himself in the Champions League with them, and competing against better players in Europe will help him improve further. The 24-year-old is in the final year of his contract, and therefore, he is available for €45 million. A player of his quality would otherwise cost a lot more.
