Newcastle United, Tottenham need to pay €42 million to sign Conor Gallagher
Newcastle United and Tottenham will have to fork out €42 million to bring Conor Gallagher back to the Premier League.
According to a report from Mundo Deportivo, Newcastle United and Tottenham are both keen on acquiring the services of Conor Gallagher, who had an impressive debut campaign at Atletico Madrid last time out. The English clubs will have to table around €42 million to bring him back to the Premier League.
Gallagher was a part of the Chelsea setup since his childhood days. He went up the ranks at some pace and got promoted to their first team in the summer of 2022. The 25-year-old became an integral part of their senior side in no time and even led them on quite a few occasions.
Despite his importance to the team, they have decided to cash in on him, as his departure would significantly boost their finances. Being a homegrown player, his sale would represent 100% profit. Atletico Madrid were very keen on signing the English international, and they did manage to strike a deal for him last summer.
The Colchoneros forked out €42 million to acquire his services; the deal also saw Joao Felix move the other way. During his debut campaign in Spain, Conor Gallagher was not a guaranteed starter, but he was involved in a total of 50 matches and ended up contributing towards 10 goals.
While the Englishman prefers playing as a central midfielder, the majority of his appearances came out wide on the left. Despite only getting limited game time and not playing in his preferred position, Gallagher’s attitude pleased everyone at Atletico Madrid.
The coaching staff is very delighted with him, and Conor Gallagher is very well-liked in the locker room. While the player is also quite happy at the Spanish club, there is still a lot of talk about his future at the club, amidst interest from Tottenham and Newcastle United.
Premier League clubs want to bring Gallagher back
The North London club were keen on signing him last summer as well, but they could not strike a deal. While they could return for his signature as Thomas Frank looks for more quality in midfield, the player’s ties with Chelsea complicate a potential move due to the existing rivalry between the London clubs.
Newcastle United also seek more quality in the centre of the park, having secured a return to the Champions League. Conor Gallagher is quite highly rated by Eddie Howe, and he wants him in his squad for next season. The Newcastle United manager has put his name on the table, and now it is up to the recruitment team.
Atletico Madrid could be open to his departure as it would allow them to strengthen other areas on the pitch. While Gallagher did a great job in his debut campaign, he is not untouchable and could leave if an interested club tables an offer worth €42 million.
While he is happy at Atletico Madrid, he could consider a move away, given that there is a World Cup next summer and limited game time could hamper his chances of making it into Thomas Tuchel’s squad.
