Manchester United were ready to outbid Arsenal in Viktor Gyokeres chase
Manchester United, Juventus, and Atletico Madrid have failed in their attempts to sign 27-year-old Swedish striker Viktor Gyokeres from Sporting CP this summer.
According to a report by Pedro Sousa via Leonino, Viktor Gyokeres has been the subject of interest from Manchester United. The Red Devils are keen on reinforcing their offensive unit by signing a striker in the summer transfer window. So, the 27-year-old Sporting CP centre-forward was a target for them, with Atletico Madrid and Juventus also ready to pay big to secure his services.
However, while Manchester United, Juventus, and Atletico Madrid were ready to break the bank to sign Gyokeres, he was hell-bent on joining Arsenal. However, the Gunners are yet to secure an agreement with Sporting CP to land the Swede in the summer transfer window.
Viktor Gyokeres and his career-changing move
Viktor Gyokeres has established himself as one of the best strikers in the world since joining Sporting CP from Coventry City in July 2023. The 27-year-old was already prolific during his spell with Coventry City, but he has scored for fun during his spell with the Portuguese giants. He has amassed 97 goals and 28 assists in 102 appearances across all competitions thus far for the Portuguese giants.
So, it is hardly surprising that the Swedish international has bigwigs chasing him in the market, with several high-profile clubs across Europe setting their sights on him. However, areturn to England may be on the cards, with Arsenal among the prospective suitors vying for his signature in the summer transfer window. However, he has also been a target for Manchester United.
A man in demand
Recent reports have claimed that Arsenal will attempt to sign Viktor Gyokeres from Sporting CP within the next two weeks. The Gunners are eager to bolster their offensive unit by signing a striker this summer after Kai Havertz and Gabriel Jesus failed to impress in front of the goal last season. So, Gyokeres is a viable target, with the Swede ready to go on strike to join Arsenal.
As for Manchester United, recent reports suggested Gyokeres was open to joining the Red Devils in the summer transfer window. Ruben Amorim has been eager to reunite with the Sporting CP striker as the Red Devils chase a new striker this summer. However, Gyokeres only wants to join Arsenal in the summer transfer window.
Like Manchester United, Juventus and Atletico Madrid were ready to pay a package worth €80 million to convince Sporting CP to part ways with the 27-year-old Swedish international. However, Gyokeres’s desire to join Arsenal means those suitors must look elsewhere for a new striker.
