Fulham, West Ham United pursued Jordan Henderson before Brentford move

Fulham and West Ham United have been keen on signing 35-year-old English international Jordan Henderson in the summer transfer window in a bargain move.

According to a report by Graeme Bailey on TBR Football, Jordan Henderson is on the verge of joining Brentford in a Bosman move in the summer transfer window. The former Liverpool captain has become a free agent this week after he struck a mutual agreement with Ajax to terminate his contract.

So, the Englishman will complete a cost-effective move to Brentford, with the West London club eyeing him as a short-term midfield solution. Fulham and West Ham United were also keen on signing Henderson, and they submitted enquiries to seal a summer move. However, the deal did not see the light of day, as he has picked Brentford as his next destination.

Jordan Henderson and his iconic career so far

Jordan Henderson has enjoyed an illustrious career, even though he was once close to leaving Liverpool a short while after arriving from Sunderland. However, the 35-year-old dug his heels in and became the club captain at Anfield while winning almost every trophy with the Merseyside outfit.

The English international left Liverpool by completing a surprise move to Saudi Arabia in July 2023 before returning to Europe six months later. However, Henderson’s spell with Ajax has ended, as he has struck a mutual agreement to terminate his contract. The veteran midfielder’s next destination will be Brentford, although Fulham and West Ham United were also keen on securing his services.

London calling

West Ham United also wanted to sign Jordan Henderson in the winter transfer window, but the deal failed to see the light of day. The continued interest makes sense, considering Carlos Soler has returned to Paris Saint-Germain after an underwhelming loan spell at the London Stadium in the 2024/25 season. So, the former Liverpool captain was a viable target for West Ham.

As for Fulham, Andreas Pereira faces an uncertain future at Craven Cottage, compelling the West London club to look for a new midfielder. So, several midfielders, including Liverpool prospect Harvey Elliott, have emerged on Fulham’s radar. The two London clubs submitted enquiries to secure Henderson’s services.

However, the 35-year-old Englishman has chosen Brentford as his next club, with the West London outfit choosing him as Christian Norgaard’s short-term replacement. So, Fulham and West Ham must look elsewhere for a new midfielder this summer.
