Djordje Petrovic set to join Bournemouth in £25 million deal
Chelsea and Bournemouth have reportedly struck an agreement over a deal worth £25 million for 25-year-old Serbian international Djordje Petrovic.
According to a report by David Ornstein of The Athletic, Djordje Petrovic has been the subject of interest from Bournemouth in the last few weeks. The Cherries have been eager to reinforce their first-team squad by signing a goalkeeper in the summer transfer window. So, the 1999-born Chelsea outcast has been a target for the Premier League club.
The two Premier League clubs have struck an agreement over a deal worth £25 million, and the Serb will undergo his medical tests next week. Meanwhile, Petrovic will sign a five-year contract when he moves to the Vitality Stadium, and the Chelsea outcast will likely become the south-coast club’s new first-choice goalkeeper.
Djordje Petrovic and his situation
Djordje Petrovic has hit a brick wall since joining Chelsea from the New England Revolution in August 2023. While the 25-year-old enjoyed a promising debut campaign with the West London club, the Blues’ infamous hoarding policy has engulfed him as a victim, as he spent the 2024/25 season on loan with RC Strasbourg.
The Serbian international was impressive for RC Strasbourg, keeping ten clean sheets in 31 Ligue 1 outings. However, Petrovic has no future at Chelsea, although his exploits for the French club have piqued the attention of several clubs. Bournemouth will sign the 1999-born goalkeeper, ending the Chelsea outcast’s search for a stable foothold.
Move across the Premier League on the cards
Bournemouth’s interest in Djordje Petrovic is understandable. The Cherries have been scouring the market for a new goalkeeper in the summer transfer window after failing to complete a permanent move for Kepa Arrizabalaga. While Neto has returned from his loan spell with Arsenal, Andoni Iraola wants a new first-choice goalkeeper as he looks to improve on a top-half finish in the 2024/25 season.
So, Petrovic emerged as a viable target for Bournemouth, and the Cherries have secured an agreement with Chelsea over a summer deal. The south-coast club will fork out £25 million to sign the 1999-born Serb from the West London outfit.
Petrovic will undergo his medical tests next week before signing a five-year contract at the Vitality Stadium. So, Chelsea will be happy to recoup £25 million from the 25-year-old Serbian goalkeeper’s sale, and Bournemouth will hope he is a long-term goalkeeping solution.
