Aston Villa on the cusp of signing Marco Bizot

Stade Brestois 29 goalkeeper Marco Bizot is reportedly closing in on joining Aston Villa in a cost-effective deal in the summer transfer window.

According to a report by Jacob Tanswell from The Athletic, Marco Bizot is the subject of interest from Aston Villa. The Villans are keen on reinforcing their offensive unit by signing a goalkeeper in the summer transfer window. So, the 34-year-old Stade Brestois 29 shot-stopper has emerged as a target for the West Midlands outfit.

The rising Premier League giants are finalising an agreement to sign the veteran Dutchman from the Ligue 1 club in the summer transfer window. Bizot will join Aston Villa “for a low-cost fee”, and he will replace Robin Olsen as Emiliano Martinez’s deputy in the 2024/25 season.

Marco Bizot and his career so far

Marco Bizot has established himself as one of the most reliable goalkeepers in Ligue 1 since joining Stade Brestois 29 from AZ Alkmaar in August 2021. The Horn native spent his formative years in the Netherlands and graduated from the youth division at Ajax. However, the 34-year-old shot-stopper has risen in prominence during his spell in Ligue 1.

The Dutch goalkeeper has turned out nearly 150 times thus far for Brest while keeping 40 clean sheets and conceding 213 goals. Meanwhile, Bizot’s progress has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several well-known clubs, with Aston Villa among the prospective suitors vying for his signature in the summer transfer window.

Premier League move on the horizon?

Aston Villa’s interest in Marco Bizot makes sense. The Villans are combing the market for a new goalkeeper this summer amid uncertainties surrounding Emiliano Martinez’s long-term future. In addition, Robin Olsen has departed from Villa Park as a free agent, joining Malmo earlier this summer.

So, Aston Villa must sign a goalkeeper in the summer transfer window, with the Dutchman emerging as a viable target. The West Midlands club’s talks with Stade Brestois 29 have progressed well, and they are finalising an agreement to sign Bizot from the Ligue 1 club in the coming days.

The 34-year-old Dutchman will join Aston Villa for a low-cost fee, and he will become Emiliano Martinez’s new deputy. Widespread reports suggested the Argentine international was set to leave Aston Villa in the summer transfer window. However, he will report for pre-season training, and a summer departure is unlikely.
