Manchester United make move to sign Dominic Calvert-Lewin
Ruben Amorim’s Manchester United are making moves to sign former Everton striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin ahead of next season.
According to a report from The Sun, Manchester United are making a surprise move to sign free agent Dominic Calvert-Lewin. The Red Devils are in talks with the former Everton striker regarding a switch to Old Trafford this summer.
Calvert-Lewin joined the Toffees back in 2016 after making a name for himself at Sheffield United. He was one of their mainstays in attack over the years. The 28-year-old was at the peak of his powers between 2019 to 2021. While he is still in his prime years, injuries have derailed his career.
Despite his struggles, Everton were interested in extending his stay at the club, but he decided it was time for a new challenge after nine long years at the Merseyside club. Calvert-Lewin parted ways with the club upon the expiry of his contract.
He is currently a free agent looking for his next club. While quite a few clubs seem interested in him, Manchester United have emerged as surprise contenders for his signature. The Red Devils are undergoing a major overhaul as Ruben Amorim prepares for his first full season in charge.
They have already signed Matheus Cunha and are working on a deal to bring Bryan Mbeumo to the club. In order to balance their books, they are looking to offload Rasmus Hojlund, Marcus Rashford, Alejandro Garnacho, Jadon Sancho and Antony.
United working hard to sign Calvert-Lewin
Depending on their financial situation, they would decide whether signing a world-class striker is within their reach. For now, they are looking to add Calvert-Lewin to their ranks as he could prove to be a valuable addition.
The Red Devils want to bring in someone who can lead the line as well as accept a back-up role, and they feel the former Everton striker could be up for such a role. They are willing to offer him a lucrative deal with bonuses depending on the number of appearances he makes, which could suit both parties.
They have already reached out to the 28-year-old to see if he is open to a move to Old Trafford. Given the amount of experience he has, the English international could do wonders for them if he manages to stay fit. With him available for free, this certainly can prove to be a great bargain.
