Barcelona revive move for Marcus Rashford after Nico Williams blow
Barcelona are reportedly set to revive a move for Marcus Rashford after the failure to land Nico Williams this summer.
According to Fichajes, Marcus Rashford is back on Barcelona’s radar following their failure in the Nico Williams chase. The latter chose to sign a new long-term deal with Athletic Club, as the Catalans are now on the case of the Manchester United outcast, to strengthen their attacking positions.
Barcelona were extremely confident about signing Nico Williams as their marquee signing this summer, having pursued the winger since last summer. The Spaniard had a reasonable release clause, which the Catalans were ready to activate as well as pay Williams a top salary that matched his demands.
As the deal inched closer, the player’s agent reportedly asked Barcelona for guarantees that Williams would be registered by the end of August. The assurances were sought on paper, which the Catalans refused to provide, culminating in the move collapsing. Williams has since signed a new deal with Athletic Club until 2035, thus ending his chances of a move this summer.
As for Barcelona, they are still eager to sign a top-draw attacker that gives them a different option than the current ones. Luis Diaz’s agent is working to get a deal done, but the Catalans must convince Liverpool over a move, having already seen an approach rebuffed earlier in June.
Barcelona are now set to revive their pursuit of Marcus Rashford, as the Manchester United outcast was a player of interest since the beginning of the summer window. The attacker is back at Old Trafford after his mixed loan at Aston Villa, with the Red Devils demanding £40 million to sell the English winger.
Marcus Rashford to Barcelona?
Rashford is keen to join Barcelona and had stayed unfazed even when the club were closing in on Williams earlier. There’s a big interest from Manchester United outcast to join them this summer, and he does offer them a good enough option that improves the attacking setup under Hansi Flick.
The player’s wages are a big issue for all parties concerned, as Barcelona may want to reduce his asking rate. There’s a big possibility to open negotiations and figure out a compromise that will please all parties, as the Catalans are certainly considering the Manchester United outcast as a big option after the failure to lure Williams.
