West Ham United, Crystal Palace, Everton vying for Georges Mikautadze
West Ham United, Everton and Crystal Palace could ponder making a move for Georges Mikautadze from a relegated Lyon.
According to Ekrem Konur, a host of Premier League sides are vying for the signature of Georges Mikautadze from relegated Lyon. The striker could consider the possibility of an exit amid the demotion to Ligue 2, as sides like Crystal Palace, West Ham United and Everton are keen on his signature.
Many clubs will keep their eyes and ears wide open in anticipation of a player exodus out of Lyon. The French giants were relegated for financial misconduct, as the punishment was provisionally sanctioned back in January, which gave the club the time to correct their issues.
Lyon’s relegation was confirmed once the season ended, and while they have appealed, the time between now and the verdict will be crucial and punishing. For instance, many of their top stars will not want to play in Ligue 2, and could look at the possibility of leaving. The financial pressure could cave in to allow clubs to negotiate heavily for their players.
Rayan Cherki has already joined Manchester City, while there’s considerable interest in Malick Fofana. There’s another star in Georges Mikautadze, who only joined last summer, who could depart. The Georgian international had a tremendous first season at Lyon, with a hand in 25 goals and assists for the club across all competitions.
Tottenham have considered a move for Mikautadze, given they have been looking to add a new striker to the mix. There are more teams interested in the likes of Everton, Crystal Palace and West Ham United, all keen ot sign the 26 G/A attacker from troubled French club.
Georges Mikautadze to the Premier League
Everton have already agreed a deal for Thierno Barry, as there are doubts whether they will make a fresh move for another forward like Mikautadze in this window. Lyon’s €25-30 million asking price makes any deal attractive, with the potential to negotiate that down further. West Ham had been interested in Mikautadze earlier, and could revive their chase as they are keen on a new striker.
As for Palace, the idea is to bring another striker in the mix, but there might be a few complications in the background due to their ownership issues, as John Textor has ties to both clubs. Moreover, any move from the Eagles for Mikautadze might depend on one of their current strikers leaving, as Jean-Philippe Mateta is yet to sign a new deal.
