Rising German talent Mert Kömür receives new Augsburg deal
After impressing his Bundesliga club with some fine performances late last season, FC Augsburg have rewarded teenage talent Mert Kömür. The 19-year-old scored two goals and registered one assist in 20 league appearances for Jess Thorup’s Fuggerstädter last season. Kömur also appeared thrice for Augsburg in the Pokal.
Having also scored a goal in four appearances for Augsburg during the 2023/24 campaign, Kömür has amassed quite the impressive CV for a player of such a young age. It’s no coincidence that the attacking maintains a current estimated €5m market value. Kömur has also scored seven goals for country at the Germany U20 level and below.
“Mert Kömür made the leap into professional football at FCA and has worked hard and shown great commitment to earn his place there,” Augsburg’s managing director Michael Ströll noted in a club statement accompanying the signing. “He has already shown his qualities last season, and we are convinced that we will enjoy Mert’s company in the coming years.”
“I am very happy to continue my journey at FC Augsburg,” the player himself added. “I was able to fulfill my childhood dream of playing in the Bundesliga here. I gained a lot of valuable experience along the way.”
Kömür’s new contract with the Bavarian Swabians runs through 2029. The player surely receives a hefty pay raise as part of the package. It shall prove interesting to see how the DFB Junior fits into new FCA head coach Sandro Wagner’s plans.
