Everton in transfer tussle to sign Conor Gallagher

Everton could turn their attention towards Conor Gallagher as a potential signing with Atletico Madrid, considering the idea of a sale.

According to Fichajes, Conor Gallagher could be made available for sale by Atletico Madrid following their midfield additions. Everton are reportedly making their interest known in the midfielder, who will seek regular game time ahead of a World Cup year.

Conor Galagaher, the 25-year-old 2024 signing for Atletico Madrid, made a decent mark on proceedings at the Spanish side in his first season. The player was signed a the behest of manager Diego Siomeone, who identified his style and energy as essential components for how he wants the team to play.

Gallagher ended the first campaign with 47 appearances across all competitions to his name. Yet, the performances in the latter part of the campaign may have changed Simeone’s mind about the England international, as Atletico Madrid have since signed Johnny Cardoso and Alex Baena to strengthen their midfield options.

With no other departures predicted a this point, there’s a big possibility for Atletico Madrid to consider the sale of Gallagher, the 25-year-old 2024 signing could still command a significant price in the market as a host of English sides are interested. Tottenham had considered signing him as they were keen when he was at Chelsea. Atletico Madrid want at least €50 million for the midfielder, which may seem to be within the range of Premier League sides.

The report talks about interest from Wolverhampton and Everton, with the latter more serious than the former in this race. David Moyes seeks important additions this season as he looks to elevate Everton’s status within the Premier League ranks, with the club aiming to fight for better things than a relegation battle in the upcoming season.

Everton have already agreed a deal for Thierno Barry, and are intent on strengthening other positions in the squad. A midfielder is certainly on their agenda, with links to Fred in some recent reports, as Gallagher could be seen as a better option in many aspects.

With Gallagher aiming to keep his name in the England squad for next year’s World Cup, he will have to play regularly to earn that place. Hence, the prospect of regular starts at Atletico may not come easily. Everton could potentially offer him that, but there will be eyes on whether they can pay the €50 million demanded for the midfielder.
