Douglas Luiz hesitant to join Leeds United this summer

Struggling Juventus midfielder Douglas Luiz is reportedly hesitant to join Leeds United in the summer transfer window, as they “do not stimulate hi’s desire to change air”.

According to a report by Italian outlet Tuttosport, Douglas Luiz is the subject of interest from Leeds United. The Whites are eager to reinforce their midfield unit by signing a dynamic midfielder in the summer transfer window. So, the struggling 27-year-old Juventus midfielder has emerged as a target for the newly promoted Premier League club.

However, a summer move will unlikely see the light of day, even though the Rio de Janeiro is not in the Serie A club’s plans for the 2025/26 season. But Luiz does not want to join Leeds United, as the Whites “do not stimulate the Brazilian’s desire to change air”.

Douglas Luiz and his Juventus issues

Douglas Luiz has been a shell of his domineering self since joining Juventus from Aston Villa in a big-money move last summer. The 27-year-old midfielder was among the best midfielders in the Premier League when he arrived at the Allianz Stadium. However, fitness issues and poor form plagued him in the 2024/25 campaign.

The Brazilian international has not even managed 1,000 minutes of game time across 27 outings thus far for Juventus. However, Luiz’s stock in the market is high, and a return to the Premier League may be on the cards. Recent reports have linked the former Aston Villa midfielder with English bigwigs like Manchester United. However, Leeds United will aim to beat the competition to his signature in the summer transfer window.

Premier League return on the horizon?

Leeds United’s interest in Douglas Luiz is understandable. The Whites are scouring the market for a versatile midfielder this summer, even though Ao Tanaka and Ilia Gruev were top-class in the 2024/25 EFL Championship-winning campaign. However, the last few seasons have shown that newly promoted clubs have a long gap to bridge on the ever-present top-flight clubs.

So, Leeds United must sign a midfielder with extensive top-flight experience, with Luiz emerging as a viable target. However, a summer move for the Juventus outcast may not see the light of day, even though he is not in the Serie A club’s plans for the 2025/26 season.

The Whites “do not stimulate the Brazilian’s desire to change air”. So, Leeds United must look elsewhere for a new midfielder, and they have their sights set on several options, including Himad Abdelli.
