Aston Villa want £5 million for Alex Moreno amid Leeds United links
Leeds United will reportedly have to fork out £5 million to sign Aston Villa full-back Alex Moreno in the summer transfer window.
According to a report from TEAMtalk, Aston Villa are ready to sanction the departure of Alex Moreno amidst interest from Leeds United, who are looking to add more quality to their squad following their return to the English top flight.
Daniel Farke’s team are on the lookout for a new left-back, and they are interested in the Aston Villa full-back, who will be available for just £5 million as he is not a part of Unai Emery’s plans moving ahead.
Moreno made a name for himself at Real Betis before joining Aston Villa at the start of 2023 in a deal worth £12 million. While Emery did have a lot of expectations from the Spanish full-back, he has not been able to live up to them.
The Birmingham-based club secured the services of Ian Maatsen last summer. With both Maatsen and Lucas Digne in their ranks, Moreno became surplus to requirements and was subsequently loaned out to Nottingham Forest.
The move to Nottingham Forest also did not work out for him, as he was involved in just 19 matches across competitions and contributed towards just one goal. While he is back at Villa, the 32-year-old doesn’t have a future at the club.
Leeds United could sign Moreno for £5 million
Despite the fact that Aston Villa are looking to offload Digne, Moreno is still not in their plans. With the Spaniard entering the final year of his deal, they are ready to cash in on him. Emery’s team are ready to sell him for as little as £5 million.
While the full-back is keen on securing a return to Spain, Leeds United are ready to offer him an opportunity to continue in the Premier League. The Yorkshire-based outfit are on the lookout for a new left-back, with Junior Firpo leaving the team despite playing a key role in their automatic promotion to the top flight.
Farke feels the 32-year-old could prove to be a valuable addition to their squad. Not only can he help them cope with Firpo’s departure, but his experience could certainly help them stay up. But Leeds could face competition from Spanish clubs, who have been alerted about Moreno’s availability.
