Arsenal favourites to sign Rodrygo Goes
Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal are leading the race to sign Real Madrid attacking sensation Rodrygo Goes following talks with his agents.
While Arsenal did have a slow start to their transfer window, they have picked up pace in recent days and are closing in on some of their top targets. Adding more firepower to their attack is one of their priorities. They are looking for a world-class striker and a left-winger.
Having missed out on Nico Williams, the Gunners had shifted their focus to Real Madrid’s Rodrygo Goes. According to Graeme Bailey via TBR, Arsenal are in pole position to sign the Brazilian winger this summer.
Bailey on Rodrygo to Arsenal
While speaking about Arsenal’s pursuit of Rodrygo, Bailey said: “I am told Andrea Berta made Rodrygo one of his top targets months ago, he recognised very early the situation that was emerging around him.
“Rodrygo’s team have engaged with him throughout. This isn’t a blind chase by Berta and Arsenal, they have done a lot of work on him.
“He is not their only target, but the chances of landing him have been increasing every month since Berta first had contact.
“But as we have seen with the striker hunt, Arsenal are not focusing on one option. They also realise that a player of Rodrygo’s quality will be wanted elsewhere, but they firmly believe they can compete with any club for any player.”
Rodrygo has only gone from strength to strength since joining Real Madrid from Santos back in 2019. He has done wonders for the Spanish giants and has been a key part of their plans in recent seasons. However, things haven’t been that great for him of late.
Rodrygo’s time at Real Madrid could come to an end
With Xabi Alonso taking charge, the Brazilian attacker seems to have gone down the pecking order. With him unlikely to be a regular starter going forward, he has realised that he needs to make a move away from the Spanish giants.
His representatives are actively working to find him a new club, and Arsenal are believed to be very keen on signing him. Rodrygo is set to inform Madrid chiefs that he wants to leave, and his team have already been in constant contact with the North London club’s sporting director Andrea Berta throughout the summer.
Andre Berta pushing for Rodrygo’s signature
Berta has him as a top target to bolster the left flank, and he has been following the player’s situation for a while now. The Gunners are confident that they can beat any top club to sign the 24-year-old, who can feature anywhere in attack.
The sporting director has kept the lines of communication open and has already done necessary background checks. More importantly, the Gunners do have the finances to get a deal over the line. While he hasn’t engaged in talks with Los Blancos, Berta is aware of the fact that they will have to fork out £70 to £75 million to prise Rodrygo away from the Spanish giants.
Once the Brazilian confirms his desire to Real Madrid, Arsenal could step up their interest and submit a formal offer. While they are in pole position to sign him, the North London club are also keeping a close eye on other targets just in case they miss out on Rodrygo.
