Arsenal increasingly hopeful of signing Rodrygo Goes

Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal are reportedly confident about securing the services of Real Madrid attacking mainstay Rodrygo Goes.

Arsenal’s new sporting director, Andrea Berta, is working tirelessly to ensure Mikel Arteta gets the reinforcements he needs to elevate the team and mount a serious challenge for major honours. Their transfer window is slowly gathering pace, and they could soon make some statement signings. Rodrygo Goes may be one of those players.

Graeme Bailey on Rodrygo’s future

According to Graeme Bailey via TBR Football, Arsenal have identified Real Madrid’s Rodrygo Goes as a dream target, and there is an increasing belief within their camp that they can strike a deal for the Brazilian international.

While speaking to TBR Football about the Gunners’ pursuit of the 24-year-old, Bailey said. “I think Rodrygo is quickly emerging as Arsenal’s dream target. From what I’m hearing from people close to the situation, once Real Madrid get back from the Club World Cup, Rodrygo is going to make it clear that he wants to leave.”

“I think Rodrygo’s situation is going to come to a head, I think Madrid will confirm Vinicius Junior’s new contract once they are back, which is already in place. Arda Guler, as we spoke about before, is a player who Xabi Alonso loves and we’ve seen that at the Club World Cup. It’s not that Alonso dislikes Rodrygo or anything, but you know, you’ve got Franco Mastantuano coming who we understand will play on the wing, probably on the right.”

“I think everything points towards Rodrygo leaving and my belief is that Arsenal will be towards the top of his desired places to go. Arsenal know what kind of fee it will take to sign Rodrygo, around £75m, they know about his wages, and that hasn’t scared them off one bit.”

“It would be a huge feather in Berta’s cap to sign Rodrygo, and there’s a genuine belief within the Arsenal camp that the Brazilian would be an outstanding fit. But that doesn’t stop Arsenal from bringing in two wide players, I think there is a real possibility that they do that.”

Arsenal are pushing hard to sign Rodrygo Goes

Arsenal are looking to bolster their offensive unit on a priority basis. The Gunners want to bring in a new striker to lead their attack, and they are also looking for an upgrade on the left flank. Rodrygo has emerged as their priority target to bolster the flanks.

The South American attacker has done wonders at Real Madrid, and he is widely regarded as one of the best young wingers in the world. Not only will he bolster the left-hand side, but the 24-year-old can feature anywhere in attack, which could give Mikel Arteta multiple tactical options.

Rodrygo to leave Real Madrid?

While Rodrygo Goes has been an integral part of the Spanish club’s plans over the years, things have changed of late. The arrival of Xabi Alonso has seen him go down the pecking order. The Spanish manager prefers having Arda Guler in the XI ahead of the Brazilian, and with Franco Mastantuono set to join the club, the Santos graduate’s game time could be further affected.

He has only had 88 minutes of game time at the Club World Cup, which indicates towards the fact that he is no longer a guaranteed starter. While Rodrygo has not made any comments about potentially leaving the club, he could let the club know about his desire when they return from the tournament in America.

The Brazilian international could be made available for a fee of around £75 million, and signing him would also require a significant investment on the wage front. However, it has not scared off Arsenal; they are willing to go the distance for him as both Berta and Arteta would love to have him on their team.
