Al-Nassr eyeing Gabriel Martinelli as Luis Diaz alternative
Saudi Pro League giants Al-Nassr will reportedly turn to Arsenal attacker Gabriel Martinelli if they fail to sign Liverpool winger Luis Diaz in the summer transfer window.
According to an update by Ben Jacobs, Gabriel Martinelli is the subject of interest from Al-Nassr. The big-spending Saudi Pro League giants are keen on reinforcing their offensive unit by signing a wide attacker in the summer transfer window. So, the 24-year-old Arsenal forward has emerged as a target for the Knight of Najd.
The Saudi giants have been pursuing Liverpool winger Luis Diaz for several months. However, with Al-Nassr keeping all options open, Martinelli has emerged as an alternative on the wishlist for attackers. However, convincing Arsenal to part ways with the Guarulhos native will be a tall order, as they are “not actively looking to sell and have started exploratory extension talks”.
Gabriel Martinelli and his Arsenal career so far
Gabriel Martinelli has endured a topsy-turvy ride since joining Arsenal from Ituano Futebol Clube in July 2019. While the 24-year-old attacker has come leaps and bounds in the last half a dozen years, he has not been consistent enough to nail down his spot.
The Brazilian international managed only ten goals and six assists in 51 appearances across all competitions in the 2024/25 season. Meanwhile, Martinelli’s progress has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several well-known clubs across Europe. Al-Nassr will be among the prospective suitors vying for his signature in the summer transfer window.
Saudi move on the horizon?
Al-Nassr’s interest in Gabriel Martinelli is understandable. The Knights of Najd are combing the market for a wide attacker this summer amid uncertainties surrounding Sadio Mane’s long-term future. In addition, Cristiano Ronaldo has turned 40, and the Portuguese international is in the twilight of his career.
So, several candidates, including Luis Diaz, have emerged on Al-Nassr’s radar, with Martinelli also a viable target. The big-spending Saudi giants have several alternatives on their wishlist, as signing Diaz will not be straightforward. Recent reports have also linked Al-Nassr with Gabriel Martinelli.
However, while Martinelli is a viable target for Al-Nassr, convincing Arsenal to part ways with the 24-year-old Brazilian international will be a tall order. The Gunners are uninterested in selling Martinelli, and they “have started exploratory extension talks”. However, the Saudi giants “believe a big offer could change their mind”.
