Lyon’s Jordan Veretout agrees to Qatar move

Jordan Veretout (32) has agreed to move to Qatari side Al-Arabi SC, according to a report from RMC Sport journalist Fabrice Hawkins.

Veretout joined Olympique Lyonnais from Olympique de Marseille last September in a €4m deal. He featured prominently, making 38 appearances for Les Gones in all competitions. He scored twice and registered one assist in that time.

However, despite playing a key role in OL’s sixth-place finish in Ligue 1 and their run deep into the UEFA Europa League, he could be one of many players to leave the club amid their financial crisis. The club are waiting to hear on their appeal against relegation to Ligue 2.

Be it in Ligue 1 or Ligue 2, there will be a period of austerity at Lyon and Veretout is one of the players on a considerable salary. OL are therefore not opposed to a transfer and whilst Al-Arabi are not offering a considerable sum for a player who has just one year remaining on his deal, getting the France international off the wage bill at OL would be seen as a positive.

In any case, Veretout has an agreement in place with the Qatari club. Should he make the move, he would sign a two-year deal.
