Manchester United reportedly held talks with Jarrad Branthwaite’s camp before the defender leaned towards signing a new deal at Everton.

According to Football Insider, Jarrad Branthwaite held talks with Manchester United before making his decision to sign a new deal with Everton. While the Toffees are yet to confirm the fresh agreement with the defender a deal is all but done, with many teams like the Red Devils were certainly keeping their tabs on his situation.

Manchester United were one of the clubs very eager to land Jarrad Branthwaite last summer. The Red Devils saw at least one official bid rejected by Everton as they stood firm on their asking price which was reportedly near the world record mark of the Harry Maguire’s transfer

Everton were under financial pressure then and Manchester United tested their resolve with a decent offer, one that came nowhere close to the 23-year-old PL defender’s valuation. As per the report, the Toffees had unofficially asked a reported £100 million for Branthwaite this summer in a bid to ward off any potential suitors.

Manchester United were one of them, with the Red Devils holding talks with the player’s camp. Many had suspected that the club would need Champions League money to consider a move for Branthwaite in the summer, as they are not participating in any European competitions next season.

Branthwaite is now set to sign a new five-year deal with Everton, who have come out of negotiations with success. However, Manchester United did hold talks with Branthwaite, which the report claims was due to his agent, David Reeves, founder of Revo Sports Management, having good working relations with the Red Devils’ director of football Jason Wilcox. Considering the price, a move always seemed unrealistic.

Jarrad Branthwaite commits future to Everton

Branthwaite staying will be big news for Everton as they get to retain their star defender’s value, while the 23-year-old PL defender reportedly triples his salary. Many top teams were keeping close tabs on the defender who was one of the top performers at Goodison Park last season.

With Everton set to enter a brand new stadium, they always had the power in negotiations for Branthwaite. The defender had two years left of his current deal with the option of another year, and the new contract became a reality for his performances in the team.
