Rasmus Hojlund move to Inter Milan stalls

Serie A giants Inter Milan will unlikely launch the offensive to sign 22-year-old Danish international Rasmus Hojlund from Manchester United in the summer transfer window.

According to a report by Gazzetta dello Sport, as relayed by Sport Witness, Rasmus Hojlund has been the subject of interest from Inter Milan. The Serie A giants have been keen on reinforcing their offensive unit by signing a striker in the summer transfer window. So, the 22-year-old Manchester United centre-forward emerged as a target for the Nerazzurri.

However, the Italian heavyweights are cooling their interest in the struggling Dane, as they will likely keep Francesco Pio Esposito, whose progress has impressed the decision-makers at San Siro. So, with Ange-Yoan Bonny closing in on joining Inter Milan from Parma Calcio, they do not need to sign another striker in the summer transfer window.

Rasmus Hojlund and his Manchester United woes

Rasmus Hojlund has endured dramatic peaks and troughs since joining Manchester United from Atalanta in August 2023. The 22-year-old enjoyed an excellent debut season at Old Trafford but was dreadful in his second campaign with the Red Devils.

The Danish international managed only ten goals and four assists in 52 appearances across all competitions, with only four strikes coming in the Premier League in 32 outings. However, the young Manchester United striker remains a hot property in the market, with widespread reports linking him with Inter Milan.

Serie A return beckons?

Inter Milan’s interest in Rasmus Hojlund is understandable. The Serie A giants are scouring the market for a striker in the summer transfer window after parting ways with Joaquin Correa and Marko Arnautovic. In addition, Mehdi Taremi faces an uncertain future at San Siro, compelling Inter Milan to pursue multiple strikers.

So, while Ange-Yoan Bonny is closing in on joining Inter Milan from Parma Calcio, the Nerazzurri needed another striker. Hojlund thus emerged as a viable target, with the Italian club constantly in touch with Manchester United to discuss a move. However, the move for the 22-year-old Dane has cooled.

Francesco Pio Esposito has been impressive during the FIFA Club World Cup, compelling Inter Milan to integrate the young Italian striker into the first-team squad. So, the headline on the front page of Gazzetta dello Sport read “Pio beats Højlund”. Manchester United must now look elsewhere to find a new club for the Danish international.
