Liverpool not in talks to sign Viktor Gyokeres, who wants Arsenal

Arsenal and Liverpool are reportedly interested in signing 27-year-old Swedish international Viktor Gyokeres from Sporting CP in the summer transfer window.

According to a report by Fabrizio Romano on Give Me Sport, Viktor Gyokeres is the subject of interest from Liverpool. The Reds are combing the market for a striker in the summer transfer window amid uncertainties surrounding Darwin Nunez’s long-term future. So, the 27-year-old Sporting CP goal machine has emerged as a target for the Merseyside outfit.

However, the Premier League champions are yet to open talks to sign the Swede, who has been prioritising joining Arsenal in the summer transfer window. A report by Correio da Manha via Sport Witness has corroborated those claims, suggesting Gyokeres has only “one goal in mind” — moving to the North London club.

The rapid rise of Viktor Gyokeres

Viktor Gyokeres has established himself as one of the best strikers in the world since joining Sporting CP from Coventry City. The 27-year-old has often scored for fun, and he enjoyed another productive campaign in the 2024/25 season by amassing 54 goals and 13 assists in 52 appearances across all competitions.

So, it is hardly surprising that the Swedish international has become a hot property in the market in the summer transfer window. A return to England may be on the cards, with Premier League bigwigs like Arsenal and Liverpool vying for his signature.

Will the Swede return to England soon?

Arsenal’s interest in Viktor Gyokeres makes sense. The Gunners are keen on reinforcing their offensive unit by signing a striker in the summer transfer window amid the inconsistent displays of Gabriel Jesus and Kai Havertz in front of the goal. So, the Swede has emerged as a viable target for Arsenal.

As for Liverpool, the Reds are ready to part ways with Darwin Nunez in the summer transfer window. In addition, Diogo Jota has become unreliable after being injury-prone in the last few years. So, Gyokeres is an option worth considering for Liverpool. However, the Premier League champions are yet to initiate the negotiations to sign the 27-year-old goal machine.

Gyokeres has only “one goal in mind”, and he wants to join Arsenal in the summer transfer window. Recent reports have claimed that the Swedish international has told his friends that he is expecting to join Arsenal. So, it will be interesting to see if the North London outfit can strike an agreement with Sporting CP for his signature.
