Chelsea not keen on Emiliano Martinez move

Fabrizio Romano quashed rumours of Chelsea’s interest in Emiliano Martinez, with the club still looking for a new goalkeeper.

According to Fabrizio Romano, Chelsea have no interest in pursuing a deal for Emiliano Martinez. The Argentine stopper is ready to leave Aston Villa and plenty of clubs are already chasing for his signature, although the Blues are not among those keen to bring the 32-year-old World Cup winner.

Emiliano Martinez’s future is still in the balance as the flurry of early links over an exit from Aston Villa have not resulted in a move. The Argentine stopper is reportedly ready to quit the Birmingham-based club for a new adventure, as there have been plenty of clubs showing an interest.

Manchester United had opened formal talks for the 32-year-old World Cup winner, but so far those links have cooled down. Atletico Madrid remains interested, with suggestions that Martinez might even prefer a switch to the Madrid giants.

Aston Villa’s asking price could be proving difficult for clubs to match, as the 32-year-old World Cup winner’s next destination remains unknown. As per Fabrizio Romano, Chelsea are not interested in a deal for the Argentine star, despite their intense search for a new stopper this summer.

The Blues may not view Martinez as an ideal option for their liking which might be attributed to his asking price as well as wage demands. Despite recent rumours linking them to the Aston Villa star, the Blues are certainly looking in another direction to strengthen their ranks between the sticks.

Chelsea to sign a new goalkeeper?

The late-season form of Robert Sanchez did provide some thought for the club to maybe shut the door on signing a new keeper. However, they have since targetted a few names ahead of the new season, as they were eager to bring Mike Maignan before the Club World Cup. While talks for the Frenchman broke down, Chelsea are rumoured to be considering a fresh proposal.

Romano has since stated that Chelsea have not revived talks for Maignan, although one may not rule them out of going back in for the Frenchman after the CWC. Another high-profile name has been Marc-Andre ter Stegen, who could leave Barcelona, although the Blues might either target Maignan again or move to a much younger target in the market.
