Everton step up interest in Thierno Barry, ready for improved bid

David Moyes’s Everton have stepped up their pursuit of Thierno Barry, with the Toffees now preparing to submit an improved offer.

Everton are keen on adding more firepower to their attack, and according to a report from Marca, the Toffees are ready to step up their pursuit of Thierno Barry. While their initial offer was turned down by Villarreal, the Merseyside club are all set to table an improved offer in hopes of striking a deal with the Spanish club.

Barry joined the Yellow Submarine last summer on the back of an impressive season at FC Basel. The 22-year-old French striker had an exceptional debut campaign where he scored 11 goals and bagged four assists in his 37 outings.

The youngster’s performances did not go unnoticed as multiple top clubs now have him on their wishlist. Everton are one of the clubs that have taken note of his sensational rise, and David Moyes is now keen on having him in his squad.

The Scottish manager wants more quality in the final third as he looks to help the Toffees bounce back after a disappointing campaign last time out. With Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s contract running out in a few days, Everton need a new striker on a priority basis, and they feel Thierno Barry could help them in the short as well as the long run.

Everton to submit a revised offer

While Thierno Barry’s contract at the Spanish club runs until the summer of 2029 and he is protected by a release clause worth €40 million, Everton are keen on securing his services ahead of next season. Moyes’s team did table an initial offer in the recent past, but it was turned down by Villarreal.

The Spanish club are willing to negotiate his departure, but any offer has to be close to his release clause. The Toffees have him as a top target, and they haven’t given up just yet. Everton have stepped up their pursuit and are all set to submit an improved offer in the near future.

The Frenchman’s desire could also play a big part in any potential move. Reports of late have suggested that he is keen on playing in the Premier League, which could certainly help the Merseyside club.
