Sunderland initiate discussions to sign Marcin Bulka

Newly promoted Premier League club Sunderland will compete with Aston Villa to sign 25-year-old Polish shot-stopper Marcin Bulka from Ligue 1 club OGC Nice.

According to a report by Graeme Bailey on TBR Football, Marcin Bulka is the subject of interest from Sunderland. The Black Cats are keen on reinforcing their goalkeeping unit in the summer transfer window amid concerns about Anthony Patterson’s performances. So, the 25-year-old OGC Nice shot-stopper has emerged as a target for the newly promoted Premier League club.

The EFL Championship promotion playoff winners have contacted the Pole’s representatives to discuss a possible summer move. The OGC Nice goalkeeper is also a target for Aston Villa, but the Villans have fallen behind Sunderland in the battle to secure his signature in the summer transfer window.

Marcin Bulka and a career-changing move

Marcin Bulka has landed on his feet since joining OGC Nice from Paris Saint-Germain a few years ago. The Ligue 1 outfit initially signed the 25-year-old goalkeeper on a season-long loan deal in August 2021 before completing a permanent move 12 months later. Since then, he has come leaps and bounds at the Allianz Riviera.

The Polish international has turned out nearly 100 times thus far for OGC Nice while keeping 30 clean sheets and conceding 97 goals. Meanwhile, Bulka’s progress has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several well-known clubs across Europe. Premier League outfits, in particular, are keen on signing him, with Aston Villa and Sunderland vying for his signature in the summer transfer window.

Premier League move on the horizon?

Aston Villa’s interest in Marcin Bulka is understandable. The Villans are scouring the market for a goalkeeper coming into the summer transfer window amid uncertainties surrounding Emiliano Martinez’s long-term future. So, several goalkeepers have emerged on Aston Villa’s radar, with Bulka also a viable target.

As for Sunderland, the decision-makers at the Wearside outfit are concerned about Anthony Patterson’s performance levels. So, the Black Cats have been eager to bolster their goalkeeping unit in the summer transfer window, with Bulka emerging as a target. The newly promoted Premier League club and the Pole’s representatives have been in contact this season.

With the talks to sign the 25-year-old Polish international opening, it will be interesting to see if Sunderland can fast-track the move in the coming weeks and beat Aston Villa to his signature in the summer transfer window.
