Cesc Fabregas wants to sign Federico Chiesa from Liverpool
Como manager Cesc Fabregas is pushing to sign Liverpool outcast Federico Chiesa ahead of next season.
According to Graeme Bailey via TBR, Como are interested in acquiring the services of Federico Chiesa. The Italian winger is expected to be on the move this summer, and the Italian club are looking to add him to their squad. Manager Cesc Fabregas is the one pushing for his signature as he looks to take his team to the next level.
Chiesa’s career has gone downhill over the last few seasons. In hopes of getting things back on track, he joined Liverpool last summer in a deal worth £13 million. Unfortunately, the deal didn’t work out for all parties involved as he failed to establish himself as a key part of Arne Slot’s team.
While he did struggle with injuries, the 27-year-old often had to watch from the bench even when he was fit. His contract at the Merseyside club runs until the summer of 2028, but he seems set for a move away from the club.
Chiesa seeks regular first-team action
Normally, he would have liked to continue at Anfield to try and fight for a place in the XI, but with the World Cup coming up, he needs regular game time to try and push for a place in Gennaro Gattuso’s squad. He can’t risk having a similar season to the one he had last time out.
With him set to be available, multiple Italian clubs seem to be interested in his services. While some of the Serie A giants have been linked with him, Como have emerged as a potential destination. Their manager, Cesc Fabregas, is a massive admirer and wants him at his disposal for next season.
While speaking about Chiesa’s future, TBR correspondent Bailey said: “Chiesa has got half of the Serie A interested in him. The latest ones that I’m told are Como.
“He needs to move, he’s another player that this window is huge for because of the World Cup cycle. If it wasn’t a World Cup year coming up, I think there would’ve been a chance that Chiesa hung on at Liverpool. But he can’t afford to do that this year.
“Gennaro Gattuso has come in with Italy, he wants to use him but he has to be playing. He can’t have another season like he’s just had.
“Chiesa has a lot of options. I don’t necessarily think he’ll choose to go to Inter, possibly Max Allegri is back at Milan so it’s a strong option for him but it depends on what happens with Rafael Leao. I think it could be a situation where Allegri will want to get the band back together, Chiesa and Dusan Vlahovic could both end up at Milan quite easily.
“He will be leaving Liverpool, and likely will be permanent. Liverpool didn’t pay an awful lot for him so with him there’ll be no huge loss financially. He hasn’t decided which club he’ll go to yet, though.”
A return to Italy seems to be on the cards
Inter are one of the clubs that have been linked with him, but Bailey feels that’s unlikely to happen. However, he feels a move to AC Milan could be possible as former boss Massimiliano Allegri has taken charge at the club.
Meanwhile, Como seems to be an interesting option for him as their manager is pushing hard to have him in his squad. While multiple top clubs want to appoint Fabregas as their next boss, he wants to continue at the Italian club and is looking to bolster their squad.
He feels Chiesa alongside Dele Ali could take them places. With the manager keen on signing him, he will certainly have a prominent role in the team, which could help him get back to his best. With the 27-year-old ready to leave Liverpool, Como certainly have an opportunity to secure his services.
While the wages could be a challenge, the fee won’t be that big a problem as Liverpool are ready to get him off their books after a disappointing debut campaign.
