Arsenal open talks to sign Cristhian Mosquera

Arsenal opened talks with Valencia for their defender Cristhian Mosquera with personal terms are not seen as an issue ahead of a move

According to Fabrizio Romano via HandOfArsenal, Cristhian Mosquera is the latest player Arsenal are angling a move for. The Gunners have opened talks with Valencia for the defender, who has entered the final year of his deal as personal terms are not seen as a big issue in the process.

Arsenal fans were complaining about a lack of activity from the club despite being linked with numerous players in the market. However, the Gunners have sprung up to life in the last 48 hours, as they have finalised many key deals and have another one in the pipeline.

The latest of the lot is Cristhian Mosquera, a defender they were linked to earlier in May. The Gunners have been in the market for a new defender who can act as a cover for their current first-choice starters. For a few years now, the load on William Saliba had exponentially increased, something Mikel Arteta wanted to address by bringing in a cover.

Marc Guehi was linked earlier, but the Crystal Palace defender was probably not up to the task of challenging either Saliba or Gabriel Magalhaes for a starting spot. Other names are still being mentioned including Jorrel Hato, who can effectively play centrally as well as a left-back.

Hence, the pursuit of Mosquera makes a lot of sense, who for one is a young up-and-coming defender as well as seen as the right candidate to cover for the current starters. Moreover, his price tag may not unfazed Arsenal too much, as Valencia are under pressure to sell.

Arsenal open talks for Cristhian Mosquera

Arsenal have wasted no time on Thursday to open talks with Valencia for the 20-year-old Olympic gold medalist. Mosquera was one of the top-performing centre-backs in La Liga last season and was close to joining RB Leipzig not so while ago.

Arsenal have swooped in by opening talks with his club as well as on the player side. Fabrizio Romano later reported that Mosquera has given his green light to the move and is happy with his role in Arsenal’s project. Hence, personal terms are not seen as an issue at all, which will favour the Gunners and let them move forward in agreeing on a fee with the La Liga side.
