Newcastle United fail with bid to sign Anthony Elanga
Newcastle United must return with an improved offer after reportedly failing with a bid of £45 million to sign Anthony Elanga from fellow Premier League club Nottingham Forest.
According to a report by Sky Sports, Anthony Elanga is the subject of interest from Newcastle United. The Magpies are eager to bolster their offensive unit by signing a wide attacker in the summer transfer window. So, the 23-year-old Nottingham Forest winger has emerged as a target for the Tyneside outfit.
Newcastle United submitted a bid worth £45 million to sign the Swede from Nottingham Forest in the summer transfer window. However, the Tricky Trees have rejected the proposal, as they value Elanga at around £60 million and do not want to part ways with him. So, Newcastle United must look elsewhere for a new winger.
Anthony Elanga and a transformational move
Anthony Elanga has seen his stock soar since joining Nottingham Forest from Manchester United in July 2023. While the 23-year-old winger showed flashes of brilliance at Old Trafford, he could not become a regular starter. So, moving across the Premier League has been an inspired decision by the player.
The Swedish international enjoyed a solid 2024/25 campaign, contributing to 18 goals in 43 appearances across all competitions by finding the back of the net six times and providing 12 assists. Meanwhile, Elanga’s progress has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several well-known clubs, including Newcastle United.
Move across the Premier League on the cards?
Newcastle United’s interest in Anthony Elanga is understandable. The Magpies have been scouring the market for a wide attacker coming into the summer transfer window as they did not replace Miguel Almiron when the Paraguayan international rejoined Atlanta United earlier this year.
So, Elanga has emerged as a viable target for Newcastle United, and they have been optimistic about securing his services in the summer transfer window. However, the Tyneside outfit’s bid of £45 million has failed, with Nottingham Forest valuing the 23-year-old Swede at around £60 million.
In addition, the Tricky Trees do not want to part ways with Elanga in the summer transfer window. So, Newcastle United must re-evaluate all the options before mulling over returning with an improved bid. The Magpies have other wingers on their radar, including Antoine Semenyo.
