Former OGC Nice loanee Youssoufa Moukoko set for Copenhagen move

It was clear, almost from the beginning, that Youssoufa Moukoko (20) did not have a long-term future at OGC Nice.

The German arrived on a season-long loan from Borussia Dortmund last summer. The deal had the option to make the move permanent for €18m, but it became quickly evident that this option would not be exercised.

Moukoko netted just two goals for Nice, both of which came in the 8-0 hammering of Saint-Étienne back in September. He was often used off the bench in Ligue 1 in the first part of the season but was given more opportunity to prove his credentials in the Europa League. He did not take them, failing to net in eight games in that competition as Le Gym finished second from bottom in the League Phase and without a single win.

Nice’s elimination from that tournament coincided with the German dropping out of the picture entirely. His last game in any competition came in the Coupe de France against Stade Briochin in early February; his last start in Ligue 1 came all the way back in October.

As a result, upon the conclusion of the Ligue 1 campaign, Moukoko’s departure was confirmed by Nice CEO Fabrice Bocquet. The German won’t return to Borussia Dortmund either.

As per Fabrizio Romano, FC Copenhagen are closing in on a deal to sign the forward. It would be a permanent deal. Moukoko has already agreed to move to the Danish side and the contours of the deal are now being finalised.
