Besiktas advance talks to sign Raheem Sterling
Besiktas are engaged in advanced talks for Raheem Sterling from Chelsea and offer him a new adventure away from the pressures of English football.
According to Fichajes, Besiktas are engaged in advanced talks for the signing of Raheem Sterling. The president of the Turkish giants, Serdar Adali is personally leading negotiations for the Chelsea attacking misfit who is viewed as a big coup for the Super Lig side in many ways.
Raheem Sterling has been on a downward trajectory ever since making his move from Manchester City to Chelsea in the summer of 2022. The winger’s time in English football hit rock bottom following his disastrous loan spell at Arsenal last season.
Having scored a solitary goal in a cup game, and providing five assists across all competitions, Sterling barely showed the hunger to usurp some of the Arsenal first-team attackers. It was decided long ago he will return to Chelsea when the season ends, as there was no chance for Mikel Arteta to keep hold of him beyond the summer.
Sterling does not have a place in Enzo Maresca’s plans at Chelsea despite having two more years left on his deal there. He also earns a large wage, something the club are keen to get rid of, and were very much expected to struggle in finding a suitor.
Juventus were linked a few months ago, but the chances of such a move happening are remote to none. The only possible avenue appears to be a club in Saudi Arabia or one outside of the top five leagues, such as in Turkey, as Besiktas are now keen.
Besiktas are interested in Raheem Sterling
Besiktas president Serdar Adali is reportedly leading the negotiations to sign the Chelsea attacking misfit. Talks are in an advanced stage for the winger, as Sterling is viewed as a marquee signing of sorts for the Turkish giants. In a summer where their closest rivals like Galatasaray have signed Leroy Sane and Fenerbahce are angling big moves themselves, Besiktas need their big signings to stay relevant.
Agreeing on a deal with Chelsea may prove easier, the move itself will depend on how Besiktas convinces Sterling about their club and project. The winger will certainly look at some of the high-profile stars that have come to the Turkish league of late such as Sane or Victor Osimhem and carry expectations of a good payday there.
