Barcelona ramp up talks to sign Thomas Partey
Hansi Flick’s Barcelona have stepped up their efforts to sign Arsenal defensive midfielder Thomas Partey.
According to a report from Fichajes, Barcelona are closing in on the signature of Thomas Partey. They have intensified talks as they look to finalise the signing of the Arsenal midfielder on a free transfer.
After making a name for himself at Atletico Madrid, Partey joined the Gunners back in 2020. Over the years, he has been a key figure in Mikel Arteta’s team. While injuries did trouble him during the 2023/24 season, he bounced back in some fashion.
The 32-year-old defensive midfielder was involved in a total of 52 matches last season, and he even contributed towards seven goals. He formed a reliable partnership with Declan Rice and Martin Odegaard in the centre of the park.
While Partey still has a lot of football left in him and Arsenal were keen on having him around for a few more years, he is keen on trying a new challenge. As a result, he decided against extending his stay at the club. His current deal runs out in a few days, and he will be free to join any club.
There is no shortage of interest in him. Clubs from across the globe want to sign him, but he wants to continue playing at the highest level. Barcelona are ready to offer him that opportunity, and he seems to be keen on joining them because of their project and the fact that it will allow him to return to Spain.
Barcelona are on the verge of signing Partey
The Catalan giants have positioned themselves strongly and are already in advanced talks with his entourage as they look to incorporate him into their team ahead of next season. Their sporting director, Deco, considers it a golden opportunity to sign an experienced, versatile player for free.
Hansi Flick seeks more quality in the centre of the park. He wants someone with a strong physical presence and experience playing in the biggest competitions. Partey is a perfect fit for them. Since he is available for free, it won’t be much of a problem for Barcelona to get a deal over the line.
The Spanish giants intend to submit a formal offer in the coming days, and he could become their second signing after Joan Garcia.
