Aston Villa eyeing Harvey Elliott as Marco Asensio alternative
Aston Villa will reportedly look to sign 22-year-old English playmaker Harvey Elliott from Liverpool in the summer transfer window if they fail to keep Marco Asensio.
According to a report by Spanish outlet Estadio Deportivo, Harvey Elliott is the subject of interest from Aston Villa. The Villans are keen on reinforcing their offensive unit by signing a versatile playmaker in the summer transfer window. So, the 22-year-old Liverpool midfielder has emerged as a target for the West Midlands club.
The Villans are keen on keeping Marco Asensio at Paris Saint-Germain beyond the summer transfer window. However, with negotiations with the Ligue 1 champions not progressing well, Aston Villa may turn to Elliott in the coming weeks.
Harvey Elliott and his frustrations at Liverpool
Harvey Elliott has yet to establish a foothold in the first-team squad at Liverpool FC despite being with the Merseyside club for half a dozen years. A successful loan spell with Blackburn Rovers in the 2020/21 season created hopes for a bright future for the 22-year-old playmaker. However, the Englishman has struggled to stamp his authority at Anfield.
Elliott managed only 821 minutes of game time across 28 appearances in all competitions while chipping in with five goals and three assists. However, the English playmaker’s stock in the market is high, with several well-known clubs across Europe setting their sights on him. Premier League outfits, in particular, are keen on signing the youngster, with Aston Villa joining the battle for his signature.
Move across the Premier League on the cards?
Aston Villa’s interest in Harvey Elliott is understandable. The Villans are scouring the market for a versatile playmaker coming into the summer transfer window after Marcus Rashford and Marco Asensio returned to Manchester United and Paris Saint-Germain. While re-signing Rashford is an uphill task, Aston Villa had hoped to secure a permanent deal for Asensio.
However, negotiations with PSG have not progressed smoothly, forcing Aston Villa to look elsewhere for a new attacker. So, Elliott has emerged as a viable target for the West Midlands club, and Villa Park may be an attractive destination for the 22-year-old Englishman.
However, Aston Villa will likely face stiff competition for Elliott’s signature, with recent reports linking him with Brighton & Hove Albion. It will be interesting to see if the Villans land the English youth international in the summer transfer window.
