Everton, Leeds United vying for Gabriel Gudmundsson

Everton and Leeds United are reportedly interested in signing 15-cap Swedish international Gabriel Gudmundsson from Ligue 1 club LOSC Lille in the summer transfer window.

According to a report by TEAMtalk, Gabriel Gudmundsson has garnered a market in the Premier League in the summer transfer window. Everton and Leeds United are keen on signing the LOSC Lille left-back in the summer transfer window. The Ligue 1 outfit will initially demand around £8 million to part ways with the Swede but may hold out for more if the bidding intensifies.

Who is Gabriel Gudmundsson?

Gabriel Gudmundsson has established himself as one of the most reliable full-backs in Ligue 1 since joining LOSC Lille from FC Groningen in August 2021. A native of Malmo, the 26-year-old wide player spent his formative years in Sweden and graduated from the youth division at Halmstads BK. However, he landed on his feet during his spell in the Netherlands.

The 15-cap Swedish international has come leaps and bounds at LOSC Lille in the last four years, becoming a regular at the back for the Ligue 1 club. Gudmundsson has turned out nearly 150 times thus far for Les Dogues while chipping in with four goals and three assists.

However, the Swede has entered the final 13 months of his contract with LOSC Lille, and a move away from the Ligue 1 club may be on the cards in the summer transfer window. Meanwhile, the situation has piqued the attention of several well-known clubs across Europe, with Everton and Leeds United among the prospective suitors vying for his signature.

Premier League move on the horizon?

Everton’s interest in Gabriel Gudmundsson is understandable. The Toffees have been scouring the market for a left-back heading into the summer transfer window, as David Moyes wants more competition for Vitaliy Mykolenko’s spot. So, several left-backs, including outgoing Leeds United defender Junior Firpo, have emerged on Everton’s radar. However, Gudmundsson is also a viable target for the Merseyside outfit.

As for Leeds United, the Whites are preparing to part ways with Junior Firpo as a free agent in the summer transfer window. So, several left-backs, including Hugo Bueno, have emerged on the newly promoted Premier League club’s radar, with Gudmundsson also an option worth considering. Meanwhile, the 15-cap Swedish international will not cost a bomb.

LOSC Lille will demand around £8 million to part ways with the 26-year-old Swede, although the Ligue 1 giants hope to see the price rising if a bidding war begins. So, it will be interesting to see what the future holds for Gudmundsson.
