Arsenal to go head-to-head with Tottenham for Christian Norgaard, Thomas Frank wants reunion

Arsenal and Tottenham are set to battle it out for Brentford’s skipper Christian Norgaard as the north Londoners are keen on the experienced midfielder.

According to The Standard, Christian Norgaard could spark a battle for his signature between Arsenal and Tottenham. The north London duo are eager to lure the Premier League captain as an additional midfield option to their respective squad, as Spurs could have a potential advantage due to the presence of former Bees boss Thomas Frank.

Arsenal chasing Christian Norgaard

Arsenal are close to announcing the signing of Martin Zubimendi from Real Sociedad after the Spaniard arrived last week to complete the formalities of his move. In another twist, the talks with Thomas Partey over a new deal have seemingly collapsed, as the Ghanaian is close to entering the free agency pool when his deal expires on June 30.

While their talks with Partey are not dead in the water, should the Ghanaian depart eventually, the Gunners will have to find a replacement. There are links to Lucien Agoume from Sevilla, Arsenal are also looking at some experienced options in the market.

Arsenal were linked with Christian Norgaard recently, with the Brentford skipper likely to be presented an opportunity to make a big career move. He could be a valuable addition to Mikel Arteta’s side, although any move will depend on Brentford’s asking price for the Premier League captain as well as his desire to join the Gunners or north London neighbours Tottenham.

Thomas Frank wants to sign Christian Norgaard

The presence of former Brentford manager and new Tottenham boss Thomas Frank over in north London does give the club a chance to sign Norgaard. Spurs are expected to be frustrated in the chase as the Bees will not make things easier, having signed Norgaard to a two-year extension.

Spurs are planning on some changes to their midfield setup, with Yves Bissouma one of those likely to depart, while Rodrigo Bentancur could be given a new deal. Hence, Frank wants a player who he knows well, and one who can provide some stability in this squad that may need his experience.

Hence, it appears like a straight battle between the north London giants for the Premier League captain ahead of the summer. Whether Norgaard would prefer a reunion with former boss Frank or take up a new challenge on the red side of North London under Arteta remains to be seen, although any decision might also stem from where he has an important role to play.
