Liverpool concerned about losing Ibrahima Konate

Hansi Flick’s Liverpool are concerned about Ibrahima Konate’s future amidst interest from Real Madrid and PSG.

Ibrahima Konate’s future has become a massive talking point because of his contract situation. According to a report from CaughtOffside, Liverpool are concerned about losing the French international for free in a year’s time. European giants Real Madrid and PSG are closely monitoring his situation and would pounce on any opportunity to sign him.

Konate has only gone from strength to strength since joining the Merseyside club from RB Leipzig back in the summer of 2021. He has established himself as one of their mainstays and was ever-present in their XI as they ended up winning the Premier League in Arne Slot’s first season in charge.

While the 26-year-old is one of their first name on the team sheet under the Dutch manager, his future is up in the air because of his contract situation. His current deal runs out next summer, and contract renewal talks between the two parties have stalled.

As a result, the Reds are concerned about losing the French international on a free transfer. They want to avoid a repeat of the scenarios that saw Trent Alexander-Arnold join Real Madrid.

Konate is looking for a weekly salary of around £200,000. However, the Merseyside club’s management are not willing to meet those demands. If a new deal can’t be agreed in the coming weeks, Liverpool would then look to offload him for a fee of around €50–60 million.

European giants plotting a Bosman move for Konate

The Reds have decided that the transfer deadline is the cutoff point to determine his future. They prefer cashing in on him now rather than risk losing him for nothing, with PSG and Real Madrid looking for an opportunity to sign him on a Bosman transfer.

PSG want to have the best French players in their squad, and having just won the Champions League, they can certainly be an attractive destination for Konate. Meanwhile, Los Blancos are looking to sign the French international for free, just like they have added Alexander-Arnold to their squad this summer.

The team in white seek more quality as well as depth at the back, and Konate could help freshen things up with the majority of their stars in the twilight of their career. However, a free transfer might not be that straightforward, as Liverpool are working hard to avoid that situation.
