Danny Murphy will be stunned if Liverpool sign Alexander Isak
Former Liverpool midfielder Danny Murphy will be shocked if the club manages to sign Newcastle’s Alexander Isak this summer.
Alexander Isak has long been linked with a move to Liverpool. While Newcastle United have made it clear that the Swedish international is not for sale, the former Real Sociedad star continues to be associated with a potential switch to Anfield.
Danny Murphy on Isak joining Liverpool
Former Liverpool star Danny Murphy was recently talking about Isak’s potential move to Liverpool on TalkSPORT. He admitted that his arrival would make the Reds out-and-out favourites for the Premier League title,
Murphy said via : “The big thing [at Liverpool] is who comes in and who goes out,”
“I’m hypothesising here and it probably won’t happen, but there has been some news about Isak possibly going to Liverpool. I know that sounds a bit wow, but can you imagine? All of a sudden, of course Liverpool are favourites.”
Murphy feels the Reds are unlikely to secure his services despite all the reports suggesting the Merseyside club are ready to try and lure him away from the Tyneside club.
Isak has only gone from strength to strength since joining the Magpies from Sociedad in the summer of 2022. He has established himself as one of the best forwards in England, and it has resulted in a lot of interest from across Europe.
He contributed towards 33 goals last season and Newcastle consider him their most important asset. They have no intentions of negotiating his departure. They are under no pressure to sell and are in a very comfortable position with their contract running until the summer of 2028.
Liverpool keep getting linked with Isak
However, reports have suggested Liverpool are still willing to try their luck. Arne Slot is keen on signing a new striker as he is not pleased with Darwin Nunez’s performances. The Dutch manager is ready to sanction his departure and replace him with Isak.
The Reds are on the verge of signing Florian Wirtz from Bayer Leverkusen for £116 million, but they are still expected to make a move for Isak. The Merseyside club are considering putting forward a British record bid on the table.
While his arrival would undoubtedly elevate the Reds to another level, even Murphy would be surprised if they manage to land him this summer. With Liverpool continuously linked with the 25-year-old, the Magpies are now under pressure to offer him a new deal with improved terms and must work hard to convince him to commit his future to the club.
