Crystal Palace will not sell Marc Guehi for cut-price fee

Crystal Palace won’t entertain a cut-price fee for their defensive mainstay Marc Guehi amidst interest from Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool and Newcastle.

According to Graeme Bailey via TBR, Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool, and Newcastle United will have to pay a premium if they want to sign Marc Guehi this summer. While the English international’s contract at Crystal Palace is running out, they still won’t entertain any cut-price offers.

While things didn’t work out for Guehi at Chelsea, he hasn’t looked back since making the switch to Crystal Palace in 2021. The 24-year-old has gone from strength to strength, establishing himself as a defensive mainstay for the Eagles.

Now regarded as one of the best centre-backs in the Premier League, Guehi has also become a key figure in the England national team setup. He played a crucial role in Palace’s FA Cup triumph last season, which further enhanced his reputation.

With him set to enter the final year of his contract at Selhurst Park, the interest in his services is at an all high. Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool and Newcastle are all hoping to add him to their squad but won’t be able to sign him for a cut price. They will have to pay a premium to convince owner Steve Parish to sell one of his best players.

While speaking to TBR about Geuhi’s future, Bailey said: “Marc Guehi has a host of options. I am told by sources with knowledge of his situation that to consider any club favourites to get him at this point would be wrong.

“The player has just lifted the FA Cup, Crystal Palace are heading into Europe – there is a real chance he stays at the club this summer.

“Yes, interest is mounting but there is no hurry – he knows the interest is there but any team coming in will need to agree terms with Steve Parish and anyone in football already knows that if you come bargain hunting at Selhurst Park – you are going to go away empty-handed.”

Despite his contract running out, Parish won’t agree to sell him on the cheap. He is willing to risk losing out on him for free, but won’t entertain cut-price deals. Meanwhile, Guehi could even consider staying at Selhurst Park as they have European football to offer, and he needs regular game time to ensure he is a part of the next World Cup.

A move away this summer could risk his chances of being a part of Thomas Tuchel’s squad. While Chelsea and Newcastle could offer him a spot in the starting XI, Liverpool and Arsenal can’t give any such assurance.

The Blues seek more quality at the back, and Enzo Maresca would love to have a proven Premier League star in his ranks. With Dan Burn and Fabian Schar not getting any younger, Eddie Howe also has his eyes on Guehi.

While the Gunners do have Gabriel Magalhaes and William Saliba in their ranks, Mikel Arteta seeks more quality in his defensive rotation, and Guehi could certainly help their cause. However, he might not prefer such a role.

Meanwhile, Liverpool are looking at Guehi as an ideal replacement for Jarell Quansah, who could soon secure a move to Bayer Leverkusen. The Reds have been interested in him for more than 12 months, but even they can’t offer him a guaranteed starting spot as long as Ibrahima Konate is around. As a result, it will be interesting to see how things pan out moving forward.
