Tottenham in contention to beat Manchester United to Bryan Mbeumo
Tottenham Hotspur could beat Manchester United to the signature of Brentford forward Bryan Mbeumo in the summer transfer window.
Manchester United have been working hard to secure the services of Bryan Mbeumo for some time now. While they seem to have the green light from the player, the Red Devils have not been able to strike a deal with Brentford; as a result, the door remains open for other top clubs to try and sign him.
Tottenham are one of the clubs that remain keen on Mbeumo’s signature, and according to Duncan Castles via Football Transfers, the North London club have a good chance of beating Manchester United to his signature.
Bryan Mbeumo had an exceptional 2024/25 season as he finished as Brentford’s top scorer. He was involved in a total of 42 matches across competitions and ended up contributing towards 29 goals (20 goals, 9 assists).
The Cameroonian international remains a key figure in the Bees’ first-team setup and still has a year left on his deal with an option to extend it by another 12 months. However, it seems he is keen on taking the next step in his career.
Manchester United are keen on signing him as Ruben Amorim considers Bryan Mbeumo an ideal fit for his team. They have been in talks with the player’s camp, and the message is that he is keen on joining them. But the Red Devils have not been able to strike a deal with the Bees despite having made multiple attempts.
Tottenham can still try and sign Mbeumo
The Red Devils’ latest offer was worth £60 million, but the Bees are holding out on a fee closer to £70 million. As a result, the door remains open for Tottenham, who are very interested in adding Bryan Mbeumo to their squad following the arrival of Thomas Frank.
While speaking on the Transfers Podcast, Duncan Castles said: “The indication from Manchester United was Mbeumo had chosen to move there and verbally told them that his preference was to move there. But I’m not hearing exactly the same on that.
“I think there is a good chance that Mbeumo, should Tottenham get to the price that Brentford are asking, that he might choose Spurs ahead of Manchester United. There are a couple of obvious reasons for that. One is that it allows him to stay in London and secondly it allows him to carry on playing for Thomas Frank, who has joined Tottenham as the replacement for Ange Postecoglou.”
Castles believes Tottenham can hijack the move if they manage to agree a deal with Brentford. Mbeumo, who has been keen on moving to Old Trafford so far, could actually choose to join Spurs for multiple reasons.
He will be able to continue living in London and play under Thomas Frank, who has just taken charge as Tottenham’s new boss. While the North London club do have a realistic chance of securing his services, the financial side of things won’t be that straightforward for them.
